Anyone tried K702 with Moon Audio Silver Dragon V3 , or any silver cable?

I can't really do A/B but I can do a side by side somewhat.  I feel the silver cable (don't know who made this cable seems to be teflon, techflex, furutech terminated, mini 3pin xlr) seems to move everything slightly a bit more forward which gives the feeling of more detail, and it also seems to clean up the bass a little.  I somewhat enjoy the forward feel, although some people may not really enjoy the detail.  The difference isn't quite night and day if you don't have the cable, but is somewhat obvious when you listen side by side.  After switching to the original cable it seems somewhat like I am listening through a thin veil, but still definitely enjoyable.  I had trouble finding other opinions on this when I got this cable.  If you are looking to listen we can work something out.  I am also interested in recabling dual entry into dual mono later...

Thanks for your offer, but I live in South East Asia, that would be really difficult. Hmm.. The difference seems rather significant to me, and definitely on the good side. That's the kind of changes I'm seeking for right now!

What music do your listen to most?

Hope you can find something useful here. I was inspired by this thread :)

Currently I have a cable using Canare Star Quad Microphone cable: L-4E5C, and my impressions were shared in the above discussion :)

Hi,

I've tried my K702 with silver and it made them a tad too bright and the bass seemed to decrease. Not good at all! ALO's SXC is a silver plated copper and sounded nice on them. Just the right balance between silver and copper. You get the detail of silver and the warmth of copper.

:) it's all about preference.  Honestly zombie I like your silver wire paired with the K702.  I think the bass seems to decrease because everything is more forward, but I generally like and find it nice.  However, I used military grade (w/e that means) silver plated copper when I recabled my K340s to dual entry and they seem to be as detailed as my K702s, but then again that is another headphone.  I believe zombie is probably right about this, and I will in all honestly use silver coated copper again as I have it laying around and it gave me good results and I would like to power them easier (higher current limits).

Have you had experience with the Mogami W2534 cable, http://www.head-fi.org/t/378255/akg-k702-build-your-own-cable

i believe Star Quad cables including W2534 are all copper cable rather than silver plated.

These cables however has very good shielding, and noise is really low - compare to the stock cable. For new recordings I hear absolutely nothing when the orchestra paused. Old recordings however...

I don't really think that picking up noise from the outside is a very big deal in terms of noise which is what the shielding in the lines are for.  I think the bigger deal is your source and your amp.

OneSec, I was hoping Zombie will give some impression about the Mogami W2534 Vs ?.  About the shielding, I think the W2534 have one of the best shielding out there, this cable was design as high definition mic cable.

Yes I have used it before. It's the only wire I other wire I use besides OCC copper and ALO's SXC. It's really good value and it did a nice job on the K702. I always join the shield with the ground on both ends of the cable (pin 1 on mini XLR, ground on TRS) and it prevents any noise from getting in. It also eliminates the need for a ferrite core as the shield acts as a barrier.

My music runs through computer and I have 2 PC with cables running all around the floor. So I dont have much of a perfect environment :p

Also great advice on using the shield as ground. I almost used one of the core as ground initially. Then my friend stopped me and gave the same advice.

I tend to use one of the core wires as a drain wire as well along with the shield. This way you get even lower noise and also raise the noise rejection rate (EMI/RFI). I'd recommending using the shield and a core wire together as the ground. It does wonders IMO.

I would go with the Black Dragon V2 and not the Silver Dragon V3 unless you are a detail freak. The K701 is a pretty neutral phone and is light in the bass region as well somewhat thin sounding to me. AKG uses the platted headband as the conductor to get the signal from left to right. Yuck. I would recommend doing a split mod. All of this provides more balance, a fuller sound and better low end.
We always tie the shield and both ground conductors at the 1/4" unless requested otherwise. Shield is not tied at the headphone end.

Has anyone tried this? Would love to get some advice and input here.
