They actually will work. But not for very long.

I wonder what would burn out first, the tube or the power supply?

OP, thanks for the humor.

And so for you new out there who are seeing this, no you can't use tubes in this condition so don't buy them. The glass is used to create a vacuum to keep oxygen off the plates. The presence of oxygen and heat will oxidize the metal surfaces. Once this occurs, current flow is restricted and you eventually burn something out.
