I know it seems a bit silly, but do any high end cans have 1/8" plugs? I'm thinking HD650, K701 price range and higher, but not IEMs which are always 1/8".

What would be nice is the ATH A900 system of a plug within a plug.

Yup HD600s have the plug in a plug business.

Edit: Also, lots of people/manufacturers make great adapters.

Couldn't you just use a 1/4 to 1/2 inch adapter? I know the K701 comes with one. The A950LTD and Ultrasone 750 came with one as well

You mean 1/4" to 1/8". The problem with an adapter such as the one that comes with the K701s is that they put a lot of pressure on the 1/8" jack. If you use an adapter it would be best to use the one like Grado and Sennheiser make. I've made a few of them myself and it really helps having some length of wire between the 1/8" plug and the 1/4" jack.

That's why you manufacture one with several inches of wire between the plug and the socket.

Sennheiser sells one like that, so does Grado.

Beyer's, they use a screw on 1/4" plug. Unscrew it, and you have yourself a 1/8" plug! Otherwise don't worry about it and get a nice Grado adapter. The RadioShack style that puts strain on your 1/8" jack should be avoided at all costs. It takes one small mistake and your jack is ruined.

Definitely the Sony MDR-V6 . . . can be had on eBay from reputable dealers for $80 or less.

IMO, everyone needs one pair of closed cans, and this is the one. You couldn't destroy these 'phones unless you step on them with all your weight...and even then, they could prolly be repaired.
