I would suggest taking your Hifi-m8 and otg cable to your local cellphone provider (store) and trying out the Note 3 or other capable smartphones to see if the m8 works with the stock player.

Both LG G2 as well as Samsung Galaxy Note 3 should be good for 192/24 without having to install USB Audio Recorder PRO.

you've tried an external dac via otg with the LG G2?

My Xperia Z1 simply detected the X3 on DAC mode, just by plugging it in. X3 woke up from sleep and immediately went into DAC mode.
It is showing up as 192kHz 24bit DAC on USB Audio Recorder Pro and sound comes out of it.
 
Did you change the USB mode of your Android to debug mode?

Just want to put it out there in case it hasn't been mentioned yet....my galaxy S4 from Rogers works with the old Fiio E7. I know the E17 has been confirmed and I have the E17 as well.

I think the E7 works for most galaxy models since the S3.

 The at&t variant runs the Qualcomm right? Has any checked  the JDS Labs Odac works with the i9505? I see DanBa's latest list doesn't include it (thanks btw DanBa).

Wow that is nice. Would you recommend the AK10 for $300 using with android phones? Also how is the AMP - does it give decent volume boost?

What phone are you using? I don't think I've had distortion since the galaxy s2 .. which was like 2 years ago
Has improved a lot since but I think it is still a little bit behind apple with the exception of possibly the note 3
