Android phones and USB DACs

Yes, you can use one of the S3-compatible DAC of the following list:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/3270#post_9891160

You should exclude DAC with mention "using USB Audio Recorder PRO" of this list, because the Google Play Music player uses only the Samsung native USB audio:

music file > Google Play Music player running on Galaxy S3 > USB audio out >> USB OTG cable >> Galaxy S3-compatible USB DAC >> amp >> headphones

Native USB audio with Google Play Music player:
music file > Google Play Music player running on Galaxy Note 3 > USB audio out >> USB OTG cable >> FiiO E17 USB DAC/amp >> headphones

No. it is not, as long as you use the DAC that can work via native S3 USB Audio, you can use any music application.

Please note though that all audio content, regardless if its original sample rate and bit depth, will be converted to 16/48. So unless you plan to play hires music and are willing to stick to UARP, don't chase DACs for numbers :) A 24/192 DAC will be somewhat useless in this set up.

Sorry, I don’t have yet a Qi wireless charging for my new Galaxy Note 3, because the Note 3 S-View wireless charging cover is not yet available in France.
I think wireless charging the smartphone while streaming music through its micro USB port won’t have any problem.

In fact it isn't a problem at all. I've been using my Galaxy S4 with my Tiny DAC and Hornet ever since Samsung's official Qi charger arrived at my office yesterday.  Now to research more interesting wireless chargers for non-work scenarios.

Is everyone disabling automatic updates for their SIIIs, S4s and Note 3s?  I wasn't going to root my S4 just yet, but fear of KNOX implementation in 4.3 has me researching my rooting options this weekend.

Looking for a USB OTG cable, with both "left" angled plugs on the end of it. I have killed off 3 adaptors already. =/

I thought that Android resamples to 44.1/16

Sorry but I got a little bit lost in this thread. May be someone could help.

I have a Centrance HiFi M8 LX, and I still wonder what will be the best solution to play 24/96 files on it (WITHOUT downsampling  &  WITHOUT using the Recorder PRO application (that do not has any Playlist/file management)).

->  Finally does the Note3 allow USB host with 24/96 support at least ?   Any other better Android hardware ?

thanks in advance for your help

I just found this threat two minutes ago, and I#m wondering why you guys dont use the micro-hdmi ports of your android devices. Whith an audio extractor (included in a hdmi->vga converter for example) you get a nice toslink output. I chose this solution since I also had to recignize that my usb-dac isn't working at my asus tablet.

I am very interested by this remark since I have a Centrance LX that has a toshlink input.

Could you point me to this solutioin that can provide a toslink output ? where can we buy it ?  What phone/tablet will support it ?

The stock Galaxy Note3 can forward 24/96 PCM stream to an external USB DAC without using USB Audio Recorder PRO.

Galaxy Note 3 & high-resolution audio:

Native USB audio with stock music player: 24/96 high-resolution audio

24/96 music file > stock music player running on Galaxy Note 3 > 24/96 PCM stream >> USB OTG cable >> 24/96 capable FiiO E17 USB DAC/amp

Native USB audio with Google Play Music player: 24/96 high-resolution audio

24/96 music file > Google Play Music player running on Galaxy Note 3 > 24/96 PCM stream >> USB OTG cable >> 24/96 capable FiiO E17 USB DAC/amp

Unlike the Samsung stock music player and the Google Play Music player, other music players like Neutron or Poweramp can only forward 16/44.1 PCM stream to an external USB DAC.

Is there a self-limitation (i.e. downsampling) of these players?

Or do the Samsung stock music player and the Google Play Music player use a new (?) separate audio environment, Professional Audio or JACK bypassing the legacy Android audio environment "AudioFlinger"?

Thanks DanBa, it looks like this is THE solution for me.

What is the most elegant (smaller, and if possible 90 right angled on booth end) USB OTG cable available.

something high quality and small like this one made by a fellow Headfier for his iPhone:
