Android phones and USB DACs

I've tried the hub and it wasn't effective for me. My problem was the usb cable (standard to mini). I swapped the cable and it worked like a charm.
Maybe the brazilian version of the GS3 is the same as the US one.

Hmm, what do you mean by swapped the cable? What cable did you use after all?

As far as I know the brazillian S3 is just a standard i9300. Check under settings, and about info: it should say i9300 for the Exynos based S3.

ps: I noticed you are located in Brazil, I am brazillian myself :)

Based on that, I think we do need to make an effort to post links to the cables we use since there IS such variance in cable makers.

Interesting info Hugo, thanks for posting.

Oh, I want all the details on that! If I can get my Pico to work without needing a powered USB hub I will be thrilled.

Sorry to bump in, but I've been reading through this thread, it's just regarding the issue of power to a Galaxy Note2 while using a portable DAC.

I seen the OTG host adapter + power plug wiring diagrams using a 124komh to allow charging while in host mode, but has anyone made this adapter using that resistance, and does it working on there Galaxy Note 2?

Regards

The difference is that the first cable (which didn't work) has a filter in the path, like this one and the new one doesn't.

I'm looking for a very specific type of DAC for an android carputer install. Hopefully somebody can recommend a DAC based on these requirements:

  1. SPDIF or TOSlink output (must not be analog back to digital - I think some DACs do that which just makes no sense...)
  2. Must work with Nexus 7 with any of the hacked kernels that enable usb audio to work
  3. Asynchronous

The FiiO E10 was a close a fit, but is not asynchronous. Anyone have any recommendations?

Great, look forward to the pics. Although I shouldn't be, I confess to lingering curiosity about how the Glacier sounds. Knowing me I won't resist scratching that itch for too long :)

Need to let the dust settle on my Audio-GD Reference 10, HE-6, and balanced mod T5p first though!

No kidding.  I've got absolutely no desire for another portable amp at this point (the Leckerton UHA-6S MKII & Objective 2 are very enjoyable & satisfying to use).. but the Glacier is constantly at the back of my mind.. increasingly testing my capacity for fiscal restraint.  It's the first amp that's truly piqued my interest since having the Leckerton & O2 for quite some time now.  I haven't even bothered visiting the portable amp subforum in months.

The less I read about the Glacier.. the better.. lol.

My modified USB (10cm angled) cable worked perfect with my Apex Glacier.
