I'm having trouble with GS3 + Pico. When I connect them to eachother, I see the USB device identification at the top of the screen and the built-in speakers mute. The song seems to fast forward (the jumps about 30 seconds forward once per second) and no sound comes out.
 
I've tried to capture a log using the Android Terminal Emulator app, but when I type "dmesg > \sdcard\f" and hit enter, I get the message /system/bin/sh: can't create scardf: Read-only file system
 
Could anyone help me please?

I can confirm the Benchmark DAC1-PRE does NOT work with the Samsung Galaxy S III. I verified USB OTG with a kb and mouse and that works fine (as well as providing an amusing smartphone experience).
Has anyone verified any USB to SPDIF converters? I was thinking of picking up a cheap Turtle Beach Micro 2. There is a video on youtube of the original Micro working.

 
I'd be interested in seeing if this one works, too.

You should type "/" instead of "\".

Has anyone verified any USB to SPDIF converters? I was thinking of picking up a cheap Turtle Beach Micro 2. There is a video on youtube of the original Micro working.

There are at least two USB DAC, working with the S3, which can act as USB - SPDIF adapter:

Edit: thanks for the info about which compatible USB DACs provide S/PDIF out for the S3/Note2. It provides a nice workaround for making those 2 compatible with a wider range of DACs - if a little less portable thanks to the extra device in the chain.

I know this isnt exactly on topic but i managed to get lossless digital output throught the hdmi port pf my Droid X. I dont have a receiver or dac but im using squeezeplayer, logitech media server, and a gtab 2 to control it and playthrough my tv (confirming output). Details above.

Based on some dmesg log outputs, I think the Samsung USB software / firmware (Exynos SoC) is intolerant with USB DACs which are not quite conform to the USB specification.

Samsung engineers / developers should improve their USB software / firmware.
We should help them by publishing dmesg log outputs.

On the other side, USB DAC manufacturers should test their (upcoming) USB DAC with the Galaxy S3 / Note2. After all, these Android phones are best selling devices.
VentureCraft has subsequently modified the firmware and hardware of its pre mass-production Go-Dap X, which should not interwork with the Galaxy S3.

Exact behavior as my Audio GD Sparrow.
 
Don't think an unpowered 2.0 Hub will do any good either, someone correct me if I am wrong. Only way I managed to get it to work was after several disconnect connects (with the hub and without it) till it actually worked,  it works perfect otherwise.
 
Please try to post logs and I will do the same. I was going to take a shot at compiling a custom kernel this week( used to develop kernels for the Infuse 4G) but I need to compile more information before I have chance at it. I also know another kernel developer for the i9300 that would take patch requests if I wanted to make things move faster.

Do I have to do anything special after connecting the usb cable to a dac/amp that works?
 
I brought my hdp to work today to use with my phone but I left my 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter at home and wasn't going to pay those outrageous prices at radioshack. Also I think it's pretty awesome how my mouse is connected to my phone right now..

Plug and play, that's all you need
and HDP works great with my S3 as well

I have the Matrix SPDIF converter on order from Headfishop. Ordered Nov 10, still hasn't shipped yet. Hopefully this gets resolved soon so that I can gets to testin'.
 
Edit: A nice lady over at Headfishop just informed me that it shipped a week ago and I have another 10-15 days until it gets to me.

Okay, I've got a couple of questions:
 
1) Is there any other workaround to make the international GS3 compatible with the Pico w/o using a hub?
2) Is this intl' GS3 problem specific for the Pico? How does it work with other DACs that are known to be good for the US version GS3?

Alright, I'm DYIng a Micro to Mini OTG adapter with a transaction translator in the path. Will let you know the results.
