Ha ha ha just opened the damn thing...(Anker Battery). And the Pulse two days ago.

= The battery pack has 4 usb ports. Yes I can use the battery pack to charge the phone using Y cable.

We'll see how it goes.

= We'll see how it goes if is used while charging the battery pack. Since my Pulse is just two days old, need more burn-in time.

Update on the post above regarding charging the phone using a Y-cable.

My current Y-cables seems doesn't have this feature: sending power to host (phone, pc) instead of source (DAC, hd).

Previous setup was a success because I need to power the DAC (Geek Out). Like using an external HD.

Will see if I have found one...

Hi everyone!

A few months ago, I bought the dacmagic xs. Then I figured I wanned to hook it up to my galaxy s3. I downloaded USB Audio Player Pro app and the combination worked. Then in the dacmagic xs there is a feature when u press two buttons, it goes to usb class 2 (so that it supports high resolution files). I tried to enable that feature while connected to the phone, and immediately the phone dies. It just wont turn on again. I took it to the maintenance guy and he replaced a piece that has to do with the charging circuitry I think. The phone worked fine again. I thought to myself that I would keep using the XS but never change it to usb class 2 mode ever again. But the moment I plugged the XS to the phone, it went dead immediately, and then had the phone fixed again. although i hv no idea what happened, I never dared to plug the XS again. Now I have the Samsung Tab S running Lollipop 5.0.2 (dunno but I hv heard lollipop supports usb audio out natively) but I have been afraid to hook the XS with it. Anyone who has advice of what to do or an explanation of what happened?

USB Audio Class 2.0 mode was drawing way too much power and those PMICs (power management integrated circuits) got deep fried, plenty of victims fried their Android devices before

USB hub could be added between XS and your phone, that's what they've been doing after their incidents.

I had my GS3 fry when plugging into a Schiit Bifrost Uber USB. Once repaired I used a powered Hub or OTG Y Cable (plugged into a USB wall wart) to supply power to the DAC. Then I was safe. As said there's a defect in the USB hardware of the GS3. My Galaxy Note 3 can go direct into that same DAC without a powered Hub and works fine.
I also have a FiiO E18 (portable DAC/Amp) which works without requiring a powered USB Hub and doesn't damage the S3 as the E18 draws no power from the phone as it has rechargeable batteries. I wouldn't sandwich the E18 with the phone as sometimes one picks up EMI/RFI noises from the phone.

Thank you for the information. If i hook up the OTG Y cable to my laptop, will it provide enough power? I mean given the fact that the dacmagic xs uses power from computer usb.
and another question, since this problem is associated with the galaxy s3, should i not fear using the tab s? I mean without OTG cable.

And one last question, will I still need the USB Audio Player Pro if I have the android Lollipop??

My GS3 didn't require Lollipop for native USB Audio to work, Android 4.4.4 on my GS3 didn't require USBAPP to work, it ran with everything. You must use a proper Y cable that provides power to the USB device (DAC), not to just to charge the phone.

Are u saying that plugging that Y cable to a laptop wont provide enough power? So I shd just use a wall charger all the time?

My s3 runs android 4.3, I guess I will upgrade to 4.4 and see if it plays usb audio natively.

If you're using the phone with the DAC then you are not using the laptop as a source. Whatever you use for the Y cable for power, as I said you must use the correct type of Y cable. A Y cable that uses the USB power Y connection to power the DAC, not for charging the phone.

Hi. I have been searching for hours and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Can someone give me a definitive answer to these questions please:

1)Will my Samsung Galaxy s5 (Lollipop) work with the E07K, specifically using Google Music (streaming) as a dac (usb otg)?

2)can I expect more volume than with my phone alone?

3)can I expect better sound quality using this setup rather than with an amp using the 3.5mm as an input ie:the fiio e11k?

Thanks!

The below seems to be the one I bought, long ago.

I would plug in the power source to the cable, then plug the cable to the S3 and finally the DAC to the cable. I always felt better/safer using the FiiO E18.

I wonder if studying those threads in detail, identifying the affected phone models and then cross-referencing against iFixit teardowns could ascertain the model(s) of PMIC that are at fault.
