Startech looks like this:

Matrix Mini is this (but this might be a slightly newer version)

http://www.matrixelectronics.net/matrix-mini-i-c-66.html

Both work fine with my Samsung S3 and both worked fine under KitKat Cyanogenmod.

Waaaaay up thread I reported matrix Mini was A-OK with the S3

I suppose I could try my ODAC and see what happens there ... I suspect it will start working when 5,1 comes out ... but maybe not :)

Seems like a PITA to always turn ON/OFF the E17, as I tried that in my car.

I decided to use this instead.

"I use this in my car, definitely better than using the headphone out. I also have the Fiio E17, which I prefer, but it's too much hassle for my car setup." [av911]

iBasso D-Zero MK2 USB DAC/amp:
http://electronics.forumsee.com/a/m/s/p12-37981-0312716--new-ibasso-zero-mk2.html

"The MK2 differs from the original D-Zero significantly in a number of ways, most notably that instead of amplification by single opamp chips, the architecture is now OP+Buffer, similar to most higher-end amplifiers ..."

Like the original iBasso D-Zero, the iBasso D-Zero MK2 has two USB power modes:
. bus-powered mode when the CHARGE switch is turned to On position (i.e. the Android device powers the connected iBasso D-Zero MK2)
. self-powered mode when the CHARGE switch is turned to Off position (i.e. the iBasso D-Zero MK2 is powered by its battery).

Is anyone here able to say if the iBasso D-Zero MK2 would allow me to listen to Spotify/Tidal/Quobuz on my Xperia Z1 Compact?
I know it's a new device, so knowlegable speculation would be almost as welcome as actual confirmation!

If the Android device works with a given USB DAC without UAPP, then Spotify should work also. My SGS3 works with the original D-Zero on any app, including Spotify and YouTube.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but nevertheless.

I use the Stoner Acoustics UD120 DAC with my LG G3 (running android 5 lollipop)  via OTG Y cable, along with Viper4Android. Mostly streaming from RDIO and Pandora.
UD120 and LG G3 pair OK without the need for special drivers (UARP, UAPP).

Two issues:
1. Frequently when starting to stream, the sound quality is BAD (lots of noise and stutter). After skipping a track or two, everything settles and sounds great.
2. Viper4Android identifies the UD120 as Phone Speaker (rather then USB Dock, as it did with android KitKat). It identifies a direct earphones connection well.

Please advice

Thanks

fanoble:

Thanks - looks a nice app. I've tried my iFi Nano iDSD dac and it would not play properly with my Sony Xperia Z Ultra ( phasey / distorted sound ) but it was OK with my Moto G ( 2nd Gen ).
Neither phones would play through my Audinst HUD-MX2 dac ( using hiby ) but that dac seems to present problems for most Android devices.

There are still two main types of Android USB audio implementations: Native USB audio & User space USB audio
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/5445#post_10937033

. Native USB audio running on
.. Android 4.x-powered Android devices: designed by Android device manufacturer
.. Android 5.0-powered Google Nexus X devices: designed by Google
.. Android 5.0-powered non-Google devices: designed by Google (?)
.. Android 5.0-powered non-Google devices: designed by Android device manufacturer (?)
.. Android 5.0-powered non-Google devices: designed by Google and enhanced by Android device manufacturer (i.e. a mix) (?)

. User space USB audio running on isochronous USB host-featured Android devices:
.. implemented by eXtream Software Development (USB Audio Player PRO, USB Audio Recorder PRO)
.. implemented by HibyMusic
