Onkyo HF Player (trial):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onkyo.jp.musicplayer

Supported formats:
• MP3, ALAC (up to 48 kHz)
• DSF/DSD-IFF (2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz/11.2 MHz, PCM conversion)
• FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, Ogg-Vorbis (up to 192 kHz)

Onkyo HF Player is a generic music player which uses the media player service provided by the Android media player framework which can only output 48kHz PCM streams towards a standard USB DAC for the time being.
Apparently, it can output 44.1kHz PCM streams towards an Android-specific USB DAC compliant with AOA 2.0.

In fact, I did a "copy - translation" from the Play Store:

"Formats supportés
• MP3, ALAC (jusqu’à 48 kHz)
• DSF/DSD-IFF (2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz/11.2 MHz, PCM conversion)
• FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, Ogg-Vorbis (jusqu’à 192 kHz)"

The Onkyo HF Player can play a 384 kHz file, but the PCM stream rate is only 48 kHz due to the current Android media player framework.

Jjacq:
One non-related question though, I know it works with USBAPP but has anyone tried the iFi iDSD Nano with Spotify or PowerAMP? Does it work at all?

Hi,  I have the iFi Nano iDSD and it does not work natively with either my Sony Xperia Z Ultra or my Samsung Note 8 tablet so both need USBAPP. The only way I can play Spotify through the Nano is on my Windows tablet but I had to install iFi's driver and I noticed that there seems to be an issue if the Nano is plugged into a powered hub which is how I normally use the Windows tab - sometimes I get a kind of background clicking noise, although it seems OK if plugged directly into the Windows machine.

Tried the onkyo hf player hoping it would work with other dacs, poor sound from the e7,nothing from the ifi dsd nano, and poor quality even from headphone out!!Anybody else try it?

Sounds great with my Galaxy S3 / FiiO E18 combo.

FLAC / ALAC capability and a decent UI, I think I'm going to like this :)

Will have a better play tomorrow.

Samsung modifies the Android OS, so that isn't plain vanilla android as with the Nexus tablet.

Hopefully Android Lollipop will solve this, but who knows.

  1. USB Audio support means you can plug USB microphones, speakers, and a myriad of other USB audio devices like amplifiers and mixers into your Android device

Hope it means there is USB DAC support for all devices running android 5.0, at least in the software.

 Fiio E7 only has 16/48 :frowning2:

Also, someone should check if the X3 or X5 now works with USB OTG natively on the new lollipop rom.

Doesn't matter if I need to use USBAPP for 24bit files but it'd be nice to use poweramp/spotify for the rest of my stuff.

According to the mentioned article, iDevices can work with a HRT microStreamer only via a powered USB hub:
"None of the other models [HRT microStreamer, ...] here work connected directly to Apple’s adapters, but they do work when connected via a powered USB hub. This is a nice option to get high-quality sound from an iOS device at home, but it’s obviously not particularly portable."

I can't speak for all Apple devices, but I can definitely confirm that the iPad mini 2 and iPhone 6 Plus both work with the Microstreamer using only the camera connection kit.  No USB hub required.
