Android: Neutron Music Player

I give up. Your device has serious gremlins.
actually with the same neutron settings, it is the same with all my android devices, it creates a huge cache, even more than 18 gb on my tablet which has a higher capacity micro sd at 1.5TB. I can live with those folder thumbnails but i do really prefer they do not show

Just found that after updating, Neutron Music Player can see the SD card, and the music folders, in my LG V60 - but it doesn't see any tracks when scanning the music folders.

Did it make you go through the system file picker to grant access to the folder?
Also, play store or generic apk, which do you use?

On my devices (including the LG V60), I've always installed Neutron from the Play Store - and this is the first time I've had an issue with the Library "disappearing", and failing to scan.

UPDATE: I uninstalled, and then reinstalled Neutron from the Play Store - without selecting "Clear Data" in App Info -> Storage. When I launched Neutron, the Library was back to being visible --- for a while ... and then it disappeared again. So, I uninstalled Neutron once more, downloaded the .apk from their website, and installed that one. Now, the Library seems to remain visible, and I can play tracks.

I'm fairly certain that it's the Google SAF issue, with the LG V60 having Android 13, whereas all of my other music playing devices have older Android versions.

I have a strange issue with Neutron: when using a Neutron player from my Android phone to any dap or dac/amp with different usb-c cables I get a high frequencies distortion with all of my headphones (this is happening only when I'm trying to turn up the volume to louder levels) on any of my daps/dac-amps. It does not happen when I'm using Usb Audio Player Pro or any other software player from my phone :/ I like the sound quality from Neutron the most, but sadly this issue won't let me enjoy my music. I'm using Neutron for a couple years and there were 0 problems before :/

Check your preamp setting. If it is hidden and is set to a positive value, this very thing happens.
Also check your eq settings, for similar issues.

I have tried clearing cache and reinstalling the app but nothing helped. There is an audible distortion noise in high frequencies on high volume levels when playing from my Samsung S20+ Smartphone with different cables to different dac/amps with different headphones. There is an option in Neutron DSP Settings called "Ultrasonic Filter" that helps a bit to reduce that high frequencies distorion, but it is still audible in some busy tracks. This does not happen with UAPP or HIby Music software players 🤔 I like Neutron software player SQ the most, but this issue spoils the overall listening experience :( there are screenshots with all my Neutron settings, maybe I did something wrong with app settings 🤔

This barely audible distortion effect also happens when I connect and use any Bluetooth headphones 🤔 I believe there should be something wrong with my Neutron app settings, but I can't figure out which exact setting 🤔

Just bought a new phone--Motorola Moto G Play 2024 (Android 13). Downloaded latest Neutron from Play Store, 2.24 version, and it refuses to populate the player with just a few music files --a mix of 16/44.1, 24/192 and 24/96-- from a brand new 64Gb SD card (Kingston Canvas Select). Neutron is able to add one album I put in the internal phone storage, interestingly.

Tried multiple types of formatting with the new card: exFAT (which card came formatted in), NTFS, then finally the internal Android formatter (not sure what it uses) but no change. Neutron can find the folder of music but will not populate with playable files. Seemed to have tried every angle I can think of.

Both UAPP and FiiO Music Player are also installed and they found and populated from the SD card no problem. Now, I've got an LG V60 (Android 13), Shanling M6 Pro 21 (Android 7.1.1) and FiiO M11 Plus ESS (Android 10), all running their most updated Neutron app and I was able to get their SD card files added. No big deal as I have the other two music players on the new phone, but I wonder if there's some Neutron trick I'm missing.

There is a FAQ entry on the Neutron website [ https://neutroncode.com/faq/58-empty-mlib ], that discusses ways of accessing media files on devices with Android 11+.
You have a choice of downloading and installing the "generic" .apk from their website - or, they describe a work-around for Google's Scoped File Access (SAF) API, to allow using the Google Play version.

Installed the generic APK from the website and loaded the music per normal from the SD card. The new phone sounding awesome. Thanks for your help!

Are there any plans for Neutron to implement loudness correction like Apo equalization does? If not, do you know of an app that would allow this on Android?
