Android: Neutron Music Player

In the current version there is a possibility/bug to replay already played tracks from the shuffle history (which Neutron keeps to provide possibility to return to previously played tracks with Prev) if you select already played track manually in the track list - then tracks following this track will play again.

Next Neutron Player's update will have this issue fixed and manually selected track will be pushed to the top of the shuffle history.

Also, Neutron Player offers Queue which can be configured as Random and Unique (long press Queue and activate those options). All pushed tracks (you can push groups of them - album, folder, artist, genre or even whole library via Songs) will get random positions in the Queue and they will play according to the random list.

If you activate Dynamic option of the Queue then played track will be removed from the Queue, so you will see only not yet played tracks in the list.

I have sequential (folder) option on, with shuffle enabled.

Played an album by clicking the first song, advancing song by song until next album (instrumental version of previous album), which looked like:

#1
#3
#4
#6
#7
#9
#5
#8
#2

#3
#4
#1
#2
#8
#6
#7
#5
#9
IMO that is not a true shuffle play. Your albums are still played sequentially.

Not sure whom your comment was addressed to. IF it was for my notification concerning shuffle play or lack there of. I do not have Queue turned on. If Queue is the answer to shuffle play then that is very cumbersome to add each song individually just to achieve shuffle play.

Please check how standard Shuffle is working for you in the current version (2.25.2) of Neutron Player. There was a fix related to shuffling.

Using Unique + Random queue though is an alternative to shuffling. You just push all tracks from Songs (long press -> + Queue) and play them from Queue and it is quite quick to achieve. Just an example of such alternative usage of Queue.

>If album X has 4 songs, it will play X1, X2, X3, X4 in order. Changing the settings does nothing.

Your post I replied to didn't mention you wanting shuffling of albums, too. I showed you plainly that shuffle indeed changes the sequence of tracks played. This was the case even before the recent bug fix (which I never experienced).

So do you want albums shuffled and tracks sequentially?

Tried to get Neutron to play via bluetooth and cannot.

No such issues with Poweramp (or UAPP) from the same device. Very peculiar.

Haven't touched any settings related to bluetooth since it's something that I rarely use.

Bluetooth connection is managed by the OS, not app. Maybe another app is conflicting with Neutron and is stealing notifications from the OS. Also, you could check Audio Hardware -> Generic Driver -> sub options and make all available Hi-Res Codec options (if present) Off.

I am not sure why the concept of shuffle play is so difficult. Shuffle for playing tracks in an arbitrary order. Arbitrary: based on random choice, rather than any reason or system. In other words random, which includes albums and songs.

See dmitry's post above regarding dynamic queue, if that better suits your listening preference.

Random playback is trivial in Neutron. Tracks from any track and any album can be played via shuffle.

If you want to (A) start playback of a random album, its tracks played sequentially, followed by another album, etc., etc., then yes, I agree that is a shortcoming of Neutron.
Similarly, (B) playback of a random album, its tracks played in random order until all are played, followed by another album, etc., etc., is not currently possible in Neutron.
@dmitrykos
This would be a welcome function in the future? I myself would use method (A) quite frequently were it available.

I know that this is an Android oriented Neutron discussion.

For what it is worth, if you use IOS do not update the latest version of Neutron for IOS. This is severely broken. Until I rebooted my phone, the app could not find any file folders. Even when file folders can be found, it can't play anything. It just rapidly scrolls through song titles.

Never had a breakdown this bad with this app. Assuming others have the same problem, hopefully Dmitri becomes aware of this and gets it fixed promptly.

I have a question regarding dongles having hardware volume like shanling UA3, how does one access this hardware volume through neutron? On UAPP there is a specific hardware volume slider.

It would be excessive load on CPU because core would need to check amplitude of every and the benefit of that is miserable. To my view strategy of manual decrease of Preamp to the negative value of the loudest low-frequency band would be the best approach. Otherwise it is better to Normalize (Peak type) album with such EQ preset to guarantee 0 clipping.

I will consider adjusting RMS's window length to make AGP more reactive to a short bursts of exceeding sample values."

Since my preamp is already at -5.3dB due to the EQ profile, and with the combination of Arya Stealth and SMSL DL100, I often no longer achieve the desired volume (so I use the player's normalize function). Unfortunately there is no option to reduce this by another 3dB.

But if I understand correctly, I don't have to worry about intersample peaks, as they cannot occur, because I use normalize?!
