How would you say the WA22 + HD800 combo is?

Never owned them simultanously, just heard them briefly together, and further - I m no fan of the HD800, me finding it too treble-tilted.

The guy who sold me the WA22 sold it only for the Stax 009/727 combo, planning for a BHSE, he had tried the Stax O2/323 and found it "equal" to the HD800/WA22. So I believe the HD800 is no slouch with the WA22 if you like the HD800, that is :D

2V output... enough said.  Was kind of bummed when I saw InnerFidelity'd scope results :frowning2:

Has anyone used the Burson audio HA-160 with the LCD-3?
I am quite drawn to its smaller size.

I've used the burson audio HA-160DS with the LCD 2/3 and it paired very well together. However, I recently sold my burson amp and purchased the ALO audio Pan Am. This pairing is amazing especially with their Russian Military tubes. A lot smaller footprint than the burson as well.

Is this in reference to the HA-160 ?

I had seen the ALO cables at the local stores but did not know they made amps too, silly of me :)
That looks quite nice and small too!

What tubes did you end up using ?

I'm currently using their Russian military tubes that they sell for $9. Also ordered Mullard CV4010 which were also highly reviewed with this amp. Check out the review on headfonia.com

Yep the HA-160 that originally claimed to be 1W then scaled down to 250mW is in fact beginning to clip at 2V.  I had the HA-160D for a while so boo :frowning2:

I remember having a conversation with someone about the HA160 with an LCD-X and whether the sound upon cranking up the volume as in fact resonance or ringing (per CSD graph). And I was like noooo, the way you described it sounds like massive distortion / clipping. I found it hard to believe given the specs, but thanks for confirming.

Even if one didn't crank it up, the HA-160 is much too sleepy and polite for the LCD-3.

The Soloist falls into the same problem unfortunately.  Its much better all round, almost B22 like performance (power aside) but completely dead.

I am quite drawn to its smaller size.

I have the Burson HA160 and the DA160 with the LCD3s and I listen to the LCD3s more with the CL -dB/RX3B out of my Mac Book Air than my Burson setup.

I did manage to find a RX3B to try, my source was not the best so I don't think its wise to comment, nor did I have much time with it.

I am still thinking the Pan Am is the goods. I can get it locally as well or order it if I want :)
Do any of you guys use the Passport or Gateway to power it ?

There are so so dam many Tube stores in HK... Maybe a I need to read up more on what tubes I can use.

All I'll say is if I had $600 and wanted a budget dac and amp... it wouldn't be the Pan Am.  www.schiit.com
