Well I've always read that the DAC audio is better than the headphone out on the iPod's, so I've been looking for an amp. I have a cMoy, but I want something that has a volume knob at the least. I plan on getting better headphones in the long run, so I would like to find an amp that has high and low gain as well. Portability isn't an issue as I use it while I'm reading/studying on my bed. Is this possible with a <$200 budget? I don't mind buying used.

Also, if you recommend an amp, please say where you'd recommend buying it from, as I'm not up on the new audio stuff anymore

Well everybody is raving about the iBasso D4, seems to do well with many different head phones. With my Classic and 530's/Triple Fi 10's I use the iBasso T3 - certainly worth $110, but doesn't make a huuuuge difference. Especially not with the 530's. I have the same plans as you, and I'll probably keep the T3 for iem's and buy a D4 or D10 for the bigger phones. Read up on the D4 and D10, maybe one of those are for you? D4 is 219 + shipping and D10 is 275 + shipping.

you said you want something better that your Ipod's Headphone out, you've ever tried listening though the Ipod dock with a LOD cable? if not I see no problem using or even adding $20-30 to the budget for one and spend the rest on the amp
