Hey guys;

I posted in the full-size section as well, but I thought that a thread here would be beneficial. So, in that case....

I am looking for an amp to drive a (soon-to-be bought) DT880/250/600. The source is a MacBook (the polycarbonate version; OSX). So, if I need a DAC/amp, then that would be fine; just keep it under $350.

Any other questions; just ask.

I am interested about the audiotailor Jade tube amp. Or any other options?

I would start with Ibasso's line of dac/amp combos, like the d4 mamba or the d10 cobra, which are both under $300

you are better off steering away from combo units.

for various reasons.
including the fact that 90% of combo dac/amps have a solid state amp section.  and the beyers, in my honest opinion, sound much better with tubes.
also, the amp section in most dac/amps simply don't have enough juice for the 250 ohm or 600 ohm beyers.
i've tried several, and none of them were as good as a stand-alone headphone amp.

so, for a little bit more money, you could get a nuforce udac as the dac.  $100.
and get a chinese tube amp.  something like a little dot mkiii, or musical paradise mp-301, or what have you.

i love the ibasso line.  i have the d4.
the dac section is great.
but there's just not enough power on hand for the beyers.  even running from 9v battery.
i guess it works okay.  it's just a little congested sounding, and fatigues my ears after a short while.
YMMV.

Bump.

Okay, I have narrowed it down to the MP-301 and Little Dot Mkii. I do also have some low impedance phones (MS1 and V6) that I would like to use with the amp as well. Opinions? Btw, this amp is only for home use, so I would prefer an amp that ran on AC/DC (haha) power, not on a battery.

I do plan to buy the NuForce DAC.

Schiit valhalla is $349.

I am still looking at the Little dot MKii and the Schiit Vasgard.

About the LD MKii: how do you control the gain? Do you open the amp casing (or what)? How do you connect the RCA cables to a computer (a macbook)?

Yes, but, I would slightly prefer a SS amp because of its longer lifespan.

Dt880/K702: help?
