So the Akg k872 sound better with the HO100 than with the Bryston?
No..IMHO the Bryston still wins out overall, base, harmonics, ........"so a price no object" the BHA-1 is still my preferred choice. To answer your original question "What's the best amplifier for the Akg k872?"... that probably brings us into subjective territory and impossible to answer but technically speaking the Bryston is definitely up there. So the Akg k872 sound better with the HO100 than with the Bryston?
"Has anyone taken apart their 872 headphones?Кто-нибудь разбирал свои наушники 872?
Красный провод заземлен?
Wow. I have the largest head I know (as measured at school when studying biology measuring the school) and I am on the last 2 clicks. Are you wearing the headband towards the back of your head, looking diagonally from the side? If yes, try the headband straight down. The position of the earcup has a noticeable effect on the sound as it often does.Got a K872 to test. Unfortunately the headband is not big enough for my head so I can't place my ears in the middle. :/ So my ears are more on the bottom side and the edge of the earpads are literally cutting my ears. Also you feel a strong vacuum whenever you wear them. That's more annoying than some Audeze cans. I also tried the AutoEQ profile, but it's complete garbage. The highs will be annoying and the bass too thin. Without this Eq it's a lot better and warmer.
Looks nice. I had one custom made years ago (initially for the K812 actually), so I fully understand the desire to have a shorter cable…Anyone find a decent replacement cable...I'm finding I've been using my K872s more than my HD800Sand Hd660S and was hoping to pick up a shorter well made 5- 6' with a 1/4" plug...no adapters please.
2 contenders so far.

Like the fact that they're using, Belden cable and Neutrik, LEMO connectors.

Not sure of the connectors but Mogami is a good choice and Sleeved in Paracord ...which I like.
Thanks to John I've been pointed to these also.Looks nice. I had one custom made years ago (initially for the K812 actually), so I fully understand the desire to have a shorter cable…
Try Arctic Cables as well - an abundance of choices.

I made my own a few years back, with resistors built in to trigger high impedance mode on LG phones' socket. I know they are not exactly portable, but they pair nicely at work. The little connector is fiddly, but not beyond a steady hand with a soldering iron.Anyone find a decent replacement cable...I'm finding I've been using my K872s more than my HD800Sand Hd660S and was hoping to pick up a shorter well made 5- 6' with a 1/4" plug...no adapters please.

Previously I had always made my own cables and sometimes I still do...but yes the little connectors are getting tinier and with age eyes and steady hands have seen better days so now wiser to leave it up to more nibble fingers. Problem when you're a DIYer the prices one sees for cables are just silly, but if folks are willing to drink the cool-aid......I made my own a few years back,............
