How are you liking them so far?

Still too early to say anything definitive, but I do like its signature sound......much like I like the HD800 signature sound, they are similar in some way. Problem is, I've been rolling tubes on my Lyr, so I'll restrict listening to it (as well as the HD800 and AD2000) on my iFi Micro iDSD for now.

Edit - Too many cans to listen to, besides the AD2000 and K812, I'd be getting a HE400i in a day or two.....I'm gonna be one hella busy man!

Wow, clearly! I'll keep in mind that the DAC2 can drive with such difficult headphones as 812. But of course better to listen to yourself.

Actually the K812 is quite easy to drive, its only a bit finicky with treble-happy amps. But I really like that combination a lot.

it's very efficient, making it easy to drive and that's a good thing imo

Agreed, The K812 saves you money, ability to obtain top performance straight out of a DAC. VS buying a HD800 is actually a $2500-$5000 purchase when you consider a respectable amp paring.

Some say K812 losses ability to play around with amps or tube rolling. One simply can play around with DAC parings with K812.

Just looking at engineering specs... unless AKG engineers are all a bunch of liers, they are easy to drive.

Whether or not they sound better being over driven is another question... I hope to answer soon

Just gave my HD700 a listen, then swapped to the K812 (using iFi Micro iDSD with vol knob at about 10 o'clock now) it was certainly louder than the HD700, I had to turn down the volume a smidgen. As it is, the HD700 isn't at all hard to drive, so I can only conclude that the K812 isn't as well. With my DT990/600, I had to leave the vol knob at about 11 o'clock to get about the same loudness, and no, I don't listen at loud volume.

i see you have idsd as well as fostex hp a4 in your signature. can you comment which one drives k812 better?

or you think mains powered desktop amp is better?

Do you mean the Micro iDSD combo vs the Lyr + HPA4 stack? Sure, I can do that, but since the HPA4 acts as a preamp, where should I leave the volume knob at for a fair comparison? The other issue I can think of that might affect volume is that I'd using Fostex Audio player with the HPA4 + Lyr stack and Foobar with the Micro iDSD. BTW, I'm pretty much a newbie, so take what I say with a pinch.....no, a cupful of salt.
