For what it's worth I used my HD800 for over 4 years, but after the K812 arrived I just couldn't get into their sound signature any more. I recently sold them and haven missed them.
The K812 is for me my end game set of cans.

That's really interesting to read as I have the HD800's but have no personal comparisons as they were gifted to me.

I guess I really like my 800's but it's intriguing to wonder if the grass is greener I guess.

Side note: what's with all these headphones named by numbers (K812, HD800)? So dull IMO, I'm sure they could be a little more inventive but seems as if the naming process is almost an afterthought.

Most brands for many decades have named their products like that because it's easier to get a perspective of how that model sits around their product offering, as in, a higher number means a more expensive/better product.

However, things seem to be changing and we need to look no further than Sennheiser to find Momentum and Urbanites... but it already tell a bit about their target audiences. The numbered models are targeted to the prosumer segment whereas the named ones are looking 100% into consumers and mass market who might just want something better than the cheapest stuff that simply work.
 
Of course, there's more to it than this with the marketing strategy for these things...

  I bene using  the Inspire Had amp with great result and the V281 violectric also worked well so any of the Violectric amps would work the V200 would be a good match for it also because it is single ended so the V281 single ended really is basically a singular V200

I can only second the recommendation of the V281, lovely combination that just yesterday gave me several hours of joy. If you're looking for an amp just for the K812 the V220 (or the V200) might be a better choice as balancing the K812 is in my opinion just not worth the hassle. The V281 is basically 2x V220, which in turn is an optimized V200. Using the V281 with single ended headphones utilizes just one of its two amps, i.e. would reduce the V281 to a V220.

Hey Frank, the V200 and V281 are different animals, even single ended - what you are thinking of the is the V220;

The V281 is dual V220~

The V220 even single ended is s step up from the V200~

The V281 has dual v200 amps with a different power supply. I confirmed that with Freid.. The V220 is a upgraded wirth options V200. We have both reviews coming shortly. The V220 has more option than a V200 but the amps section are basically the same per Fried. Either amp will work.

From the V281 thread i was under the impression the V220 and V281 were 'based' on the V200 but had a much larger PSU (25W in the V220 vs 10W in the V200 - plus another 15W for the second amp in the V281; so 40W total in there)

 Power supplies were upgraded but he told me specifically that their  were  two V200 amplifiers  with the upgraded power supply for the V281. In any event the differences Warren noticed differences with the V200 and V220 were mostly in the options. Warrenjump in n the V220 . I am doing the V281 and Project 86 also can jump in a John is very good with technical details. Still the single ended ams would be best for the K812 unless the users have balanced headphones then the V281 is the best option.
 
The two tube amps I am using with it is the Inspire (review coming) and the Viva Egoista.

Hey guys, just to help clarify... this is what Violectric has to say about the V220: "The reliable V200 amp circuitry is utilized with its highly efficient current limiters and will only be slightly altered to further refine the design. Lots of protection circuitry is used in this design to ensure extremely long lasting lifespan for both the amp and your headphones." Based on my time spent with the V220, I would concur with the above. There were changes made to enhance the circuit, but I wouldn't say that it sounds like a different amp. And if you don't need or want the features that the V220 offers, then you can save a bunch by opting for the V200.

No, not a budget model, rather their top model targeting studio users. Very good actually, though I preferred the P version with XLR input and relay output protection.

The HD800 is a wonderful headphone, and whoever gifted this to you is a Saint! I just personally preferred the K812 sound better. If you can swing it, the Senns sound their best with the Sennheiser headphone amps.

Bought k812 for a month and still using sony uda1 to drive it. Planning to accquire violectric hpa v281 to upgrade as it also has balanced output for other headphones.
