Question, do you feel like not getting the most out of your V281 with your K812 due to its inability to use the XLR-out of the amp? 

Electronically I shure do not use the V281 to its full potential: only one of the amps is driving the K812. Still I'm very impressed by its capabilities and will get an XL4 connector for my T1 (its easy as they already use appropriate cabling).
 
But while the whole thing of channel separation is nice and all, my motivations were a bit different... for one its a work of art in the way its built and electronically designed, on the other hand I hate nothing more than an amp operating at its limits... headroom is what I like to have. The V281 will never break a sweat.
 
And just look at that:

 

 
Its little brother V220 would of course be sufficient for driving the K812 single-ended (its just how the V281 acts when using the SE outputs) and would sound fantastic as well. To me its a really good match, giving the impression that the K812 is under full control.

I like the V281 and K812 combo but the AKG really sings on tube amps.  Been using it more with my Viva Egoista and also Dennis Had Inspire amp does really well with it. I also like it with the V281 though.

There are lot of good amp for the akg k812. I have heard it on the inspire 1599.00,V281, 1899.99 and the Viva. Lot of less expensive amps should be looked at the wa7 999.00 unit comes to mind

 Why? Not sure Smitty  knew  what type of power the  Viva was putting out  as he said the  Bottlehead  was powerful. Nothing to do with ego.

  Heck I like it on the V281 and Inspire iHA-1 one as well.
