AKG K167 TIËSTO - Discussion, Impression, Review & Appreciation Thread

I didn't plan on amping these. That said, I have always done the portable thing. Ipod, plus K81DJ and that was it.

If I was to go amp, would a Fiio e6 do enough to actually make a difference? That is about all I am willing to spend on one. Would it make a difference with the 167? Or not worth it.

Man, classical music with these is a unique experience... Maybe due to so much detail and the "Amphitheater" like soundstage (and I never liked classical music)

No, not worth it.  Don't use anything below the E11 for these phones.

How much of a difference would a e11 make with these? A little or a world of difference? I do like the fact it comes with the rubber band to keep it together with my ipod.

Yes it does some difference. Not much, but something. Now, if you put a JDSLabs C421 with AD2227 OPAmp, even instrument separation gets better. Makes the E11 sound muddy and congested.

Thanks.  I currently have the DT 990, but am trying to audition a few more before my return window closes.  Portability and ability to be driven without an am is huge-- I have been lugging the 990 back and forth to the office, and it's more of a hassle than I thought it'd be.

OMG, the details, these headphones really makes me want to listen to my entire collection all over again, Diana Krall has never sounded so good.

These should sell like hotcakes, I'm very impressed.

More later :)

Are these headphones good for EDM?

It depends if you're a basshead or not. If you are, there are other options. In this case, the K267's, eventually. For me (I'm a basshead) they don't work for EDM (I like to feel the drivers shaking), but do work wonderfully for everything else, including Hip-Hop.

Dude, I'm reconsidering the move to the K267's. These K167's have everything one could dream of for 230€.
