I don't think the K1000 prices are absurd at all. Does anyone know their MSRP at the time of release?

Hello all,

I am considering a compact setup so that I can listen to the K1000 in my office (when I am enduring the long nights in the empty office).

I came across this one which looks very interesting. This is from Germany but the English description does provide some idea of this amp does.

SAC AKG K1000 Amplifier

May I ask if any of you K1000 Supermus have any experience / knowledge about this amp ? Is it good ?

Thanks Karmathis. That is a very informative thread about the SAC.

Unfortunately the headwize forum thread links are not accessible at this time.

It looks like the SAC is a pretty good deal for K1000 owners.

In Germany 1400 Deutsche Mark = 700 EUR. I dare say: a good investment, retrospective.

^ This webpage from 1994 refer to 4500,-

Since the page is dutch I assume it refer to 'guilder'. The currency is no more though, so no idea what that would be in Euro.

Hey you K1000 owners our there,
this might not really fit in here but I'll ask anyway. Shouldn't be a problem to link to a single post.

What's the benefit of using K1000's over normal speakers?

Since they aren't portable, completely open, don't isolate at all etc. I wondered why not just use normal speakers?
For a few hundred bucks one gets great (small/desktop) speakers with very flat response, nice/better bass extension, low(er) THD and whatnot.

Maybe there is a very obvious reason, which I can't think of right now... but there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. Right?
