I ordered a K 81 DJ from an internet shop. Today I received an e-mail saying the AKG K 81 DJ is no longer being produced and was out of stock. They contacted the AKG importer for my country and he doesn't have any in stock either. Has anyone else heard anything about this ?.

As an alternative they offered me the K 518 DJ for a slightly higher price. Are there any differences between the K 81 and the K 518 other than color ?. Thanks in advance for any answers or advice.

Thanks for answering. The K 81 DJ wasn't introduced that long ago, was it ?. Could they really be out of production already ?.

I don't know whether they're still in production, but I do know I managed to buy a pair in Singapore a few days ago. So they're still around some places.

Apparently the K518 DJ has limited availability.. functionally identical, except different in physical color as sulcata_geo mentioned. It's a shame they're so scarce on the general market as IMO they look a ton better than the regular K81 DJ.

I have a pair of the k81 posted in the sales forum as we speak. Agreed the 518's look cooler but the black velour pads from the hd25's add a nice touch to the look. I'm not sure what prices your finding, maybe I paid a little more, but I thought I was at a fair price point, no takers yet.....

Am I the only one that thinks the silver on the K81DJ looks superior to the jet black on the K518DJ?

Has anyone actually seen a real pic of these K518s? All I see is that stock CG picture. It would be nice to see it in real life and even better if it were beside a pair of K81s to compare.
