I just wanna get some opinions on what headphone you guys think have the best midrange out there. Im a huge midrange/vocal fan, so im just curious to see what you guys think. The traits that would qualify would be a seductive, smooth, lush midrange that has the emotion to absolutly blow you away..especially with female vocals.

I have the HD-650's and the W100's..both which are known to have great mids, but i know there are other types out there that may be better.

I love the Alessandro MS-2 mids. The RS-1 is also very good, but is kinda different than other cans.

Grado mids. Sweetness in a foamy headbun.

I like the midrange on the K501s. Probably a little cold for your sonic preferences though.

Also a big fan of the lush midrange of the K501's. But as Bill said, you may not like them if you want to fulfill your sonic needs. But I really don't think you can get any better than the AKG midrange personally, especially on the 501's.

Course there's always electrostatic...

You have one of the best (650s) if not the best, just enjoy them.

Out of: hd650/hd600/k340/k1000/hp2/rs2/W2002/L3000, the best midrange is easily the L3000. Where's my L3000 smiley!???

I don't know - the 650's have a reputation of having great mids, but I'm not blown away by the mids on that headphone - vocals never quite did it for me - they don't have the presence, projection, and smoothness to make me feel like I'm there. The W2002 (with synergistic amp - perhaps only the HA2002 will do) and L3000 both do vocals much better. Also, I thought the hp2 and k340 both had at least slightly better mids than the 650 with any cable.

To be fair, it can't be denied that the hd650 sounds excellent for their price, and they really do improve on an amp like the SDS.

Yeah, I'm now an AT whore. I don't care what you say behind my back, all I need is another hit - a sniff of the leather will do - to keep me going

Of the few headphones I've heard (and I haven't heard many!) the most commanding midrange belongs to my latest rage the Koss ESP/950 electrostats.

Of the good headphones I have a lot of experience with: 7506, HD 580/600, HD 280 Pro, K501, DT 880, I would say the Etymotic ER-4S is the 'absolute best headphone for mids' if you're talking about pure transparency - all other headphones I've heard sound much more muddy to varying degrees. But they might not be what you're looking for (in sound). Too bad they're such a pain in the arse to use at home.
