7Hz Impressions & Discussion

Reading the reviews of the Zero2, you'd think it was rolled off compared to the OG, which I found ear-piercing and had to put Complys on to tolerate. The Zero2 is exactly as you describe...nowhere near as relaxed as the Starfield. I haven't compared the tips to the original yet, but I am either getting a much better seal with the Zero2 silicon tips, or the new tuning just helps that much.
Grabbed myself some TRN T medium tips and made reverse tips out of them. They fit perfectly on my Zero 1 and 2. The sound is deep, full and bassy.

My impression of Aurora. I got it at canjam SG and it was a blast to use.

Aurora is basshead approved. The 12mm DD can handle a large lowshelf while still keeping really good detail and distortion-free impact. The planar is very fast and resolving, large soundstage, pretty good imaging. Not a fan of stock tuning, but I usually never am as my preferences are pretty niche as you can see.

With stock tuning, they look like they can be painful in the 3K region. Also, can you compare these (stock) with the Legato?

Stock Aurora vs stock Legato...lol let's see. The Aurora stock is hard for me to listen to. If I didn't know about EQ, they'd get returned. Although very resolving, they are bright and those peaks are fatiguing. Stock, the Aurora doesn't sound that natural to me. The Legato is almost the complete opposite of the Aurora. Warm, impactful, less fatiguing, visceral bass. Both have really good soundstages. And while the Legato has some tuning oddities of its own, it's definitely more tolerable than the Aurora's tuning.

The Legato will give you more bass quantity out the box, but the 12mm DD in the Legato doesn't sound as clean as the DD in the Aurora, even when both are eq'd to the same level. The Aurora is more resolving everywhere, but you're going to have to take a break sooner because of all that treble.

The Legato has better build quality and are more comfortable in my big ears. The Auroras are shaped very similarly to the Legatos, but there is a little bulge where they fit the BAs in. That bulge pushes the little flap at the opening of your ear, and it can get uncomfortable after a while. It's also more difficult to insert because of that BA bulge. The Legatos just slide right on in with ease.

Thanks for the comparison. The Legato are a guilty pleasure of mine. I normally like sets that have a neutral bass, but now and again, I just want to hear some teeth rattling bass (like I used to with car equipment back in the day). As for the Legato tuning, you are right, but if I close my eyes they sound like old school 2 speaker systems from the 80s, which makes them even more of a guilty pleasure for me. :)

So while they are a "niche" listen for me, they have creeped up to be in the "favorites for what they are" category and keepers. I DO hate how they fit though. The nozzles are way too long and thick for my comfort (though I manage).

Either way, congrats on finding the sound you like. That is what this is all about after all. :)

The 7Hz Aurora IEM to Renata Cable to Totem Adapter to WM1A....equals pure bliss.

I just picked up the Crinacle Zero 2 for $35 Canadian. Plugged just into an apple 3.5 to usb-c, was quite disappointed. Then I plugged it into the iFi Go Link and it was a huge improvement. Wasn't expecting it to sound that much better but the iFi definitely made a big difference. For $35, they are very impressive. I'll probably use these with the iFi for walking my dogs in the summer.

"This Aurora “for all practical purposes” is an open-back IEM. Yep, it sounds and acts like one…..it is one. Though these are not like open back full-size headphones in that you will not disturb anyone while using them. In this case we get that open and falling out to infinity sound, yet 90% of the sound travels out the nozzle. Those three vents have to do something, as the Aurora is one……..probably the biggest staged IEMs I have heard this year…….don’t believe me, buy a pair! The soundstage is enormous!"

I have the Timeless AE for 1,5 years now. Man, they grew on me.

I've wrote comments for example that I liked the Aful Performer5 or the Moondrop Aria Snow's sound signature more, that's still true, but not to the same extend.
The AE's are my Go-to for music listening. My 1K Over-Ears are on stands and collecting dust. The Bass is still the best I've ever heard in an IEM. Super fast, not particularly strong, rather punchy. They're not the shiniest on my setup, and the mids are still not perfect for my taste, but the music listening experience is wondeful.
I enjoy music and that's what matters.

The P5, maybe it was ''new stuff bias'', are not that high on my ranking anymore. They sound solid, but so boring. I used them for gaming and movies and the separation is still better than on the AE's. The problem is, my room is hot as hell at this time of the year, it feels like 40 Degrees or something. I can't use the P5's in that weather. They didn’t have ventholes and they're big and fill my whole ear. The long time comfort isn't as good as I thought at the beginning, especially compared to the AE's. They're clunky and the cable hurts on my ear, even though it's an awesome stock cable.
The Timeless AE is sound quality wise one or two classes above the P5.

The Aria Snow's are almost clinical sounding, but for games it's perfect so they don't color anything. And bc they have ventholes and are a little smaller, I can use them even in the sahara desert for my gaming sessions (I look at you P5…). I only heard music with them when I got them a few days prior to the AE's, so I can't really compare them from memory, It wouldn’t be fair. Paint chipping isn’t an issue as of today either.

Even though this is a long post, I thought I share it bc opinions and impressions can change over 1,5 Years.

PS: None of my chinese IEM's ever broke on me, but my 1,000€ 'Made in France 🇫🇷' Focal Headphone had a defective driver after 7 Months. Durability isn’t an issue for me on chinese brands.
