Massdrop shipping is the worst. I am two states away from the warehouse and it still takes longer than ePacket.

I changed my MD monk+ order to my friend's house as i have more than enough and at least one of all kinds of Monk. He only has one original monk so i think he needs 3 plusses more than i do

I still say look into it more before deciding.

It works best as a standalone dap.

It needs an amp imo

Can you even amp without distorting?
I tried amping and it got distorted, considering its being double amped which I hear has no point.
What's your experience?

But come to think of it, i'm not very particular about double amping. I remember the days of the Sansa Clips and Zips and i usually pair them with an amp. But the question is, is the HO out of the D clean enough to be amped - but i guess i have to ask this question in the Plenue D thread :)

If i'm considering a dap only solution, yes i will definitely look into the D. But now i'm thinking of playing around with an amp, i might look elsewhere...

The monks and zens sounds great off of the xduoo x3 (without an amp).

Thanks! I was actually looking at the Xduoos too (both X2 and X3) nice thing about the X3 is that we can play around with Rockbox

The X3 has enough output power to make the monks sound wonderful, and to even make the zen 1.0's sound awesome. I can stack on another amp to make the zen 1.0's sound even more awesome, but I don't find it a necessity.

So what I like about the X3: great SQ, power output, ability to play hi res files, small size and weight yet solid feeling, buttons, rockbox-ability, dual card slots, excellent price.

I have to admit i enjoy using monk more on my lg v10 than most DAPs. The ESS DAC doubles the current pulled from the battery, but worth it for the sound...

I have a V10 also - used with Poweramp. Looking forward to firing up the Monks with the V10!
