you guys probably aren't old enough or have been on the thread long enough to remember the old Sennheiser MX400/500, and I'm pretty sure based on what I'm hearing, its the SAME cans...

those were at the time, like the KSC-35 the value leaders, but most people did not like the fit.

The size, shape, and sound is so similar, I only can reckon that this chinese company OEM'd for Sennheiser, and now are producing them as Senn isn't.

Well my friend your impressions don't reflect the truth or your mind is playing tricks on you if you still don't have the MX400.

I still have a Sennheiser MX400 and even the drivers and the internals aren't the same. The cable on MX400 is thinner. And the sound cannot touch Monk's beautiful addicting sound. They all sound very different. It's like comparing apples and oranges. MX400 sounds rubbish compared to Monk and Monk+. It has very thin bass thin and undetailed mids and recessed treble.

Lastly I don't think Lee copied some crappy Sennheiser drivers. Furthermore they can learn something about how they should tune their drivers. ;) Yes, I'm VE fan. :D

I'm 38 years old and I had all old MX series (200/400/500). Also MX170/270/271/260/360/470. They all sound rubbish to me compared to Monk.

Can you see the differences? MX400 has clearly thinner cable and smaller magnet. Not to mention the sound of course :)

Left: Monk Right: MX400

You couldn't be more wrong actually. And I know this for a fact :)

I would compare my Monk+ to LZ Z03A and **** UE just for fun today but couldn't switch to them yet. That a/b'ing will take too long if you have a Monk+ :D

Kids woke me up at 6am on this public Holiday Monday, and I've been listening to the Monk all morning as a consolation. Many, many, many shivers down my spine, I think I'm running out of dopamine; these Monk Plus are like drugs!

Even better sounding than Monks? Mine are still on the way.

I never had the mx500 but I had the mx400 and the Monk is definitely something else to my ears. Would be very surprised if mx500 and monk sounded alike? I didn't think they did

I believe so. It's taking the Monk sound and steering it towards a more detailed and refine sound signature.

No question here they're an improvement over the originals. The Monk Plus sound so close to the Asura 2.0 it's not even funny.

Inevatibaly at some point people will freak out over not being able to get the old Monks anymore but really no loss there IMO, I honestly after a lot of A/Bing can't find anything I prefer about the original monk to the monk plus. I really and honestly think there are no steps backwards.

The plus are more bassy right? I can't see how that is better than the originals as they were quite bassy too.

This may be worthy to you if you don't know the original monk sound, idk.

I always thought the Monk had great bass unamped for an earbud, but other ones like Dasetn MC5 surpassed it all around on bass..

can't really say the same with the Monk anymore. More & better sub, mid and high bass

TL;DR all around better and bassier, plus mids are more "alive" feelng on the monk plus now.

I literally can not think of a single reason to prefer Monk v1 over monk+.

I have the original :) really like them but with foam they already are quite dark sounding.
