I don't like the new ASU uniforms. I'm not terribly conservative, but wish more schools would stick with tradition. Especially Oregon. I always liked the old uniforms and the Donald Duck logo. Becoming Phil Knight's fashion models was not an upgrade.

Anyway, did you all catch that Notre Dame v. Michigan game? Holy crap. I was irritated that ND lucked out again and almost stopped watching. I'm glad I didn't. Chip is going to have fun explaining this one to the alumni.

Also glad 'SC pulled out another nail-biter. If not for the stupid turnovers, they would have put it away earlier. Am very glad that they picked up the first win in the Pac-12. Though that should go to Cal for knocking off Colorado. Since the game was scheduled before the Pac-12 existed it didn't count as a conference game. Weird.

Now if UCLA can just find a way to lose to San Jose State, I'll go to bed happy. I was amused when Neuheisel asked if he was the only one who cared after practice, too. Is it too late to bring Dorrell back?

Viro, I didn't see OU play in the first week, but based on what FSU has shown so far, I'm very scared for our matchup next week. Uggh

Ha really? 62-10 isn't enough for you!

I thought OU looked sharp. They had a look about them. But that was in Norman where they could beat the 85 Bears. While under Stoops, they've been mediocre away. So I'm thinkin' the game is a tossup. TO's or a big play will decide it; should be fun.

One team that would really scare me is Alabama Crimson Tide. Good gracious that is a nasty looking squad.

That Colorado game was our Nevada game this year, except this year our team dug in, gritted their teeth, and put all heart into that win.  Today is apparently the first time Cal has ever answered a FG with with a TD (brother to brother!) in the same OT period.  I also don't think Cal has ever won a road game in OT, so I think it was huge that the players had a chance to really lay it all down.  That mile high high altitude looks like a killer.  Players were visibly sucking wind in 4Q.

The officiating was horrid!  Felt like the fans were intimidating the refs.

I think it's a 6-6 to 8-4 season, but no one expected Cal to win the Pac this year.  Maynard's a gamer.  He shows confidence, poise, and leadership, and he took some really nasty hits in the 2H but got right back up and calmly led through it.

Colorado is definitely a different team at home.  They went 4-6 at home last year, and the 2 losses were only by 3 and 6 points.

Kind of funny how USC was awarded an extra TD 2 hours after the game ended.  I wonder how many people went back to the casino.

Forgot to note, wish SJSU could have pulled that one out.  Glad UMich won, though :)  That was a crazy game.

Their defense sure looks solid. I thought both (but not all three) QBs played well in the Penn State game today but that 'Bama defense is a monster. They're in a tough conference but they could take it this year. And if they take their conference they could take it all.

'SC got another touchdown? Odd, odd game. I'll have to go read about that. :)

I'm glad Cal pulled it out. I do like Cal; good program, good school, lots of tradition, and a good band. I always pull for them except for the 'SC game.

Thanks for the kind words :)  Most USC alum I've met are great, but a few sometimes get a bit Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to football!

I'm dreading the Oregon, Stanford, and USC game this year, but I think we have a fighting chance at the rest of the games this season.

I only watched the second half of the USC/Utah game, and USC's defense was dominating in typical fashion.  Cal's 2012 class, in terms of talent, should hopefully be in a similar league, but it's probably not happening this year.  Maybe we'll catch USC during a down week, but USC and Oregon State always match up well against us.

Man, I am glad I stayed up for the end of that Michigan -ND game. What a crazy finish. And a very satisfying ending!

Other random thoughts this morning:

- Is BYU that good, or is Texas that bad?
- I was totally wrong about Bama. They're beast. Mea culpa. I didn't see any of that game since I was in the stadium for the NU game as always, but the stat line was pretty scary.
- the end of the Scar-GA game was almost as nuts as MI-ND. But I called the right winner
- While I was wrong about Bama, I was right about tOSU. They're FAR from the best team in the B10. And while Wisco beating a bad Oregon State team is nothing to get too hot and bothered about, it is very clear that the Badger attack is the real deal, as it's not just about a bruising rushing attack this year. Russell Wilson is a huge addition to that team, and behind that line and with those backs and receivers, Wisco could do better than the 42 ppg they averaged last year.
- The bloom is off the rose of our win over BC last week. A 30-3 loss to UCF? Man thats bad. I'm still glad to be 2-0. And grateful we don't play Wisco. Sorry we don't get to play Purdue though.
- Iowa isn't even the best team in the state. BAD loss.
- I'm not sure I understand the new rule that negated USC's final touchdown. I missed that rule change I guess. Maybe one of you guys can explain that to me.

Man I am glad CFB is back!

So, Rob.  Where's your mea culpa for picking Miss State to whip up on us?
Hahahaha.   Just kiddin' ya.
The poor little freshman Tigers didn't stand a chance at home.

In all seriousness, yesterday wall full of exciting moments.  Even this early in the season, i can say this is going to be an exciting year for us.  Whether we eke out 6 wins or 7.

Heh, well that post was at halftime, but yeah. Defense has looked real good, especially the front four. But we have struggled so much in run blocking it is hard to not be worried. Our center straight sucks. Our left guard has been pretty bad too. EJ Manuel will probably have all the rushing yards for FSU.

Amen to that.  Lucky, skill, whatever, as long as you get the W.

It has to do with unsportsmanlike conduct when scoring a TD. If a player showboats, dives for no reason, does a flip, etc as he's approaching the goal line. not only will they get a 15 yard penalty, they take away the TD. I'm pretty sure that includes the team charging onto the field like what happened at USC. As for why they got it back, I don't know. Here's a story about it and why it may have been given back. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/How-USC-tacked-on-one-last-touchdown-two-hours-?urn=ncaaf-wp6197

Not only is their D quite solid, almost all the starters are NFL-bound. But what impressed me was McCarron, that kid's got quite the arm. He was throwing long ropes, and bullet strikes where there was no margin for error all day long, and he ended up 19/31 with no turnovers. That 5-yard TD strike to Williams was especially impressive. Hopefully for Tide fans he won't get overconfident and careless.

That was a good explanation, here's another one:

"Almost everybody in the Coliseum thought the officials ruled Harris' touchdown didn't count because of an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty called when much of the USC bench ran onto the field to celebrate, mobbing him in the end zone. But long after the Coliseum had emptied, the Pac-12 announced that Harris had scored after all, saying the penalty was what didn't count.
"All Unsportsmanlike Conduct fouls by substitutes (on the bench) are enforced as dead ball fouls," Pac-12 officiating consultant Mike Pereira said in a league statement. "Since the game was over, the penalty could not be enforced, and the referee stated it was declined by rule. The officials did rule it a touchdown, making the final score 23-14.""
