1/7th? if it was that i would be really happy the average connection in Brazil is 1MB, i have 3MB, not great, but at least works...

Ahh, you didn't get the joke pun....that's fine.

If the average connection in Brazil is 1MB/s, then it's already one of the worlds fastest. The average in South Korea is 1.75MB/s.

And yes I'm trolling as I know you messed up bytes and bits, but that is fine.

Why would you ever convert PCM to DSD? it doesn't return to the original DSD at all.

That's the point I was making.  Some regular dude may have just done it to sell it as high res. But the page does look legit

Well from Google Translate, at least, it doesn't say what the native format is.

As already stated, PCM to DSD is a lossy conversion process. Were it released by Sony, it would likely be a native DSD format since Sony was the pioneer of the .dsf container format.

The album has the HQD label on it, and from the description of that, it's 24/44.1.

I did get there from here though:

You read PFO? Didn't know that

If they are selling the OST in true DSD it is pretty amazing, but yeah, you can convert DSD to PCM, but you can't do the reverse.

DAYUUUUM. DSD?

Is this native from the studio or some ****** that wanted to make a few bucks that just converted the files to DSD.

Why would you ever convert PCM to DSD?

Because they know some people will pay for all things DSD.

I've been looking through this though; native DSD

True true. Some studios record in DSD, but convert to DXD and master the album in PCM.
Unfortunately we don't know anything about this album's origins though.

That's bad, i really hope it's true DSD or it will be just another way to fool audiophiles out there...

Some labels like Blue Coast Records record to 2-inch analogue tape and convert that to DSD.
They're actually releasing their first DSD128 album at a special pre-release price, if anyone is interested. I actually like the album.

As for the White Album 2 DSD offering, it might be native DSD, maybe.

From the sound of that article, which is the record label that released the WA2 album, they're recording in DSD? Google Translate might be weird though.
Speaking of which. Ooooooooh, White Album 2 = WA2 ≠ Woo Audio WA2. That's the anime I used to make fun of because I used to think y'all were talking about the Woo Audio WA2. XD

Another way to get nice DSD files by buying the Sound Fidelity and Mobile Fidelity SACD albums, but since almost nothing reads SACD, it's pretty bad...

There are a few hybrid SACDs I would like to get, but I don't have a SACD player, so it's kind of pointless for me to get one, let alone finding a quality SACD player.

I wish there were more percussion recordings available to purchase. Most of the HD stuff nowadays is classical (which I don't actively listen to), jazz (which is okay), acoustic folk (which is okay, but they're mostly from the USA), classic rock (which I don't listen to), or pop songs from the 80s (which is okay, but I don't actively listen to). I'm really kind of sick tired of seeing Diana Krall or Norah Jones everywhere; I don't particularly like their music since that's what everyone has.

These HD formats always claim that the high frequencies are compromised with non-HD music, yet a lot of the recordings offered don't really make use of the high frequencies. Percussion instruments have a lot of overtones, and the high frequencies thus become more important in that case, so it boggles my mind why no one really records such instruments.

This is the only album I know of for percussion instruments, but HD Tracks is pretty much useless for revealing how the album was recorded and mastered.

It is Chesky Records though, so I'm inclined to think the 24/96 version available is the native format, but again, I have no idea.

Something like this would be great to see; Trilok Gurtu is a great percussionist.

The problem is that music usually don't even get close to the dynamic range possible on CD, and it gets even worst when talking about 24/96 PCM or DSD, yes, you reduce the quantization errors on one end but get more thermal noise from the equipment used to record it, what if you ask me, may sound nice and give a more complete sound, but some older recordings like the one on Paranoid from Black Sabbath that i've heard on SACD had too much background noise from equipment and stuff, but the mastering was amazing compared to the latest versions available.

Yeah, that's true. Even with uncompressed music, 16-bit audio is sufficient unless there's some insanely dynamic music that I don't know about. The only reason why I'm against SACDs is because the record label may have done the dreaded PCM to DSD conversion to get the DSD layer of the SACD, so it's not DSD-native. >.>

One of the hybrid SACDs I'm interested in is Ola Gjeilo's Northern Lights choral album. Amazing amazing amazing choral album.

On an unrelated note, that album I mentioned in my last post is only offered at CD-quality on Chesky Records' own website. I'm inclined to think that the HD Tracks version is just an upsampled one; another strike against HD Tracks. T_T

On the other hand, STAX! : D
