So, was reading up on the Thinkpad X62 again (a Chinese mod that replaces X60 internals with modern ones, was linked here at least once) because why not. Turns out they had more than that one mod - also the X320/X330 (X220/230 with modern internals, including a fullHD screen with a thinner bezel - AFAIK now unavailable due to not being able to source the screens) and the T62/T70, which are similar mods for the then-full-sized T60, with T70 being the current one in its first revision.

Neat. Not that I would be able to afford either, but it's awesome to see people doing things like that.

Yep I admire the passion of the die hard fans of the classic ThinkPads, but I'll never buy one as a primary/secondary machine because I don't think they're all that reliable and with a modern laptop, you expect decent battery life.

Really liking this trackpad modded X240, has good enough battery life even on the standard batteries and is somewhat light enough to just chuck around and use in bed. The X230 is still mostly a more powerful machine with a better keyboard, but it's a little bulkier and the display isn't as good as the X240. The X240 definitely feels like a modern machine (the latest X270 basically uses the same chassis, lazy Lenovo!), it's quite dramatic compared to the poor old X230.

X240 with a X220 keyboard? :wink:
Sadly, probably impossible. I know there's a T430 with a T420 keyboard mod, but I don't think there's one for the later ones.

Ahahha unfortunately impossible for the xx40 series, it's the 3 button trackpad mod...somebody thought it was a good idea to remove the trackpoint buttons on the xx40 series, they got quite the pounding and reverted the change for the next generation. XD

Oh dear. Sounds like fun.

But could be worse...

Once a lady took remote control of my computer to do something. I couldn't stop her in time when something wasn't working and she looked for a solution. Thus, she bumped into my h***** collection. ;^;
