Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread
Apr 25, 2017 at 9:10 AM Post #3,211 of 22,522
So are any Hugo 2 future owners here going to purchase an ISO REGEN shortly (sale starts in a few hours) to use with their Hugo 2?

I'm not in a rush because I have a microRendu + LPS-1 setup but it seems highly anticipated on a couple other forums.

The galvanic isolation isn't even touted as it's main feature - it apparently has the best USB signal integrity of any USB hub type device they've ever measured, even better than the microRendu which has REGEN features built in, so I may try it out later.

WTA (Watts Transient Aligned) filter is the code Rob Watts wrote for the DAC filters in the FPGA chip. I have no question about wether you prefer the sound of the Hugo more, but the power output is identical and has been confirmed many times. Too many times people assume that better sound equals more power.

well....i told that my impression is more power from hugo but the reality is different. i don´t think a huge difference between mojo and hugo. the mojo has a beautiful sound and i just bought a hugo by an occasion. for me hugo not worth the price. i have some years of experience with audio stuffs and honestly my impression is that hugo has more current or power or another thing but in fact dirves better my headphone

I'm with you....also have lps1 and microrendu...not jumping aboard the hype train just yet.
the new iso regen thread on computeraudiophile is below, should anyone wish to follow.

will be interesting to see the results and people's ops,..esp in a few months when the koolaid factor subsides and we read more on the different configurations.

Yep you can bet others are working on similar too. iFi confirmed and Wyred 4 Sound probably since their RUR was a big success and competitor to Uptone's REGEN. I'll probably wait until end of the year once all the comparisons are done.

But Uptone (and John Swenson in particular) have a reputation for delivering the goods so it would be a nice addition for anyone looking for USB galvanic isolation and more importantly USB signal integrity regeneration feeding their Hugo 2. 30 days trial offered.

Also looking forward to user impressions :)

I thought that I had read on prior posts that the HUGO 2 had more output power than the original HUGO and also more powerful than the MOJO. Is this not true.?

The official specs:

Hugo¹.............................Hugo²....................... ......DAVE
070 mW at 300 Ω.........0094 mW at 300 Ω............154 mW at 300 Ω
580 mW at 033 Ω.-.. . ....740 mW at 033 Ω..-.......1400 mW at 033 Ω
720 mW at 008 Ω.........1050 mW at 008 Ω..-.. ....2900 mW at 008 Ω (estimated)

So at the end mojo is equal to hugo?

That's very hard to say. It would imply knowing what a neutral DAC sounds like. I for one prefer the sound of the Hugo most of the time, but now and then am fascinated by the Mojo's distinct dryness in the sense of presenting an unvarnished sound with extreme accuracy, not least because it lacks the Hugo's (and DAVE's) sparkle. That's why I perceive it as less smooth than the other two – which puts me into a tiny minority.

The actual motive for replying was to clarify that it isn't a magical «driving ability» or power reserve that's responsible for the difference in the sound characteristics (a beloved misconception around here), just the different sound characteristics.

So at the end mojo is equal to hugo?

For total output power, yes. For 500mA Current delivery, yes. For output impedance of 0.075 Ohms, yes. For THD the Mojo is better.

For sound quality, no, they are different. Rob has said on this forum that part of the brightness of the Hugo1 is from some noise floor modulation. The Hugo2 doesn't have any measurable noise floor modulation, and I suspect the Mojo is also better in this regard compared to the Hugo1. I haven't heard the Hugo1 so I'm only speculating about where some audible differences are. Also, Rob says he tuned the Mojo smoother, but as far as power is concerned they are the same.

so, this is my point. ok, power output is the same. sound signature is different.would have made no sense two equal products with a huge different price. i know that now hugo is discontinued and probably hugo2 is a completely different. i repeat: i don´t prefere hugo to mojo. if i had to buy the hugo new, i kept my mojo
i´m waiting a chromecast audio to try hugo with optical. will see if i found some difference

What are the latest updates from UK people about when they'll get their hands on their 1st shipment pre-order?

Not asking as a 'hurry up' at all but keen to know when first impressions should start popping up.

You lucky UK folks will get it before the Aussie shipment arrives.

In France the last email I received stated Apr 28th for delivery to the dealer.
Then it is the May bank Holiday weekend, so I am assuming delivery to me, end of next week.
The bank Holiday will be the same in UK, so either people will collect their H2 from their dealer on Apr 28th, or delivery during next week.
Fingers crossed.
