Finding a DAC for the Cavalli Liquid Carbon. Only Four Months to Go.

I have no doubt that the Hugo would work wonders with the LC but isn't a $2500 (or whatever) DAC getting a little out of the range of pairing comparable components?  The OP was looking for a DAC at roughly the same price as the LC.

I bought Gumby which is 2X the cost of the LC and thought I was going way out of line.  It's also much bigger.  So who am I to question the choice of a Hugo?  I'd like a Hugo just because it looks so cool with all the colored lights.

Might be worth reading Jason Stoddard's chapter that he posted today.  It's all about where we draw the line on audio gear.

What about the Bimby, same price, small form factor and from first impressions on the other thread sounds pretty dang good as well. Perhaps even better price/performance than Gumby, which most people believe is amazing for the price

Edit: I'm probably gonna grab the Bimby myself since it fits my needs pretty well (for those that don't know, it's the latest name for the Multifrost/Bifrost Multibit)

I would say that the MoJo is a completely viable option as a DAC for the Liquid Carbon.

Yes I agree the MOJO would be a good dac for the Liquid Carbon. I will eagerly await peoples impressions on the Mojo.

Detailed comparison with the DAC-19 please!

Edit: and yes the Mojo seems perfect for the LC and the exact same price. Almost like someone at Chord was reading this thread!

I agree with Drgajet, balanced DACs should not be a requirement with the LC. Use whatever DAC you like and run its best sounding output to the amp.

I'd love to get some time with the Mojo/LC combo, but never underestimate the sound of a good R2R DAC. The BMB is the same price as the Mojo, the GMB and DAC-19 a bit more. Just something to think about when considering a DAC purchase.

Just checked the original post and balanced output is the only thing lacking with the MoJo. As a Hugo owner and having listened to the LC at canjam running off a Hugo. I think I will be very content with the MoJo, especially since it's made by Chord. Love every produce of theirs I've listened to and wish I could afford the Hugo TT.

The on-board amp for the Hugo is its biggest weakness.  Try running it through an external amp or using headphones that don't need a good amp to sound their best.

I'm...guardedly optimistic... on the Mojo.  I simply don't trust that they can get the sound of the Hugo into something that small with that many features.  I know it checks off a lot of the features on the OP of this thread, but I seem to recall that good SQ wasn't actually listed as a requirement.  It will probably sound pretty good for the money given all its features, but I suspect the Bimbo will sound better given that it's R2R and eschews a lot of the bells and whistles.

I HOPE the Mojo is everything we want it to be, I just don't expect it to be.

I have had a MoJo for a bit and I am scratching my head trying to figure out how this much power and this CLEAN a signal can come from such a little device.

Remarkable.

More later.......
