If you mean BH, then yes, they are extremely reputable. You will probably end up with the new green box.

. Don't ever take anyone's word as gospel around these parts. We're all full of it.

I just posted about this in another thread. Basically, this all got started because of a poorly-understood Headfonia article. I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that there is no intentional difference between the blue and white box M50s. Headfonia didn't imply that, either, but people misread the article and made a big fuss about it. What the folks at Headfonia heard (along with, presumably, those who claim to hear a difference for themselves here on Head-Fi) was a difference between production runs. The difference was subtle at best, and some people they tested couldn't hear it at all.

Like so many things on Head-Fi, though, it ended up getting blown out of proportion. Don't worry about which box you get. The headphones inside will be as identical as AT's mass-production tolerances allow which, evidently, yields small but sometimes noticeable IN AN A-B COMPARISON differences between batches.

Everyone says the differences are subtle. I can't agree with this. I'm 99% sure that all of them come in a white box (or green?) and not the old black box with the flap. If you get the black one it's the old version and I'd send it back! Or at least listen to it. Mine had the very rolled off treble and the bloated bass. It was almost as "bad" as an HD-600 in that area! The new one (white box) was a huge improvement and actually fatiguing out of the box. I'm sure the treble gets toned down a bit after burn-in (like on my KRK). I had to return it though unfortunately.

I should try to new white box version someday. Maybe it'll be such an improvement that I'll love it the second time around. I doubt it since the mids still aren't good enough for me. Too picky I guess.

So there are black, white, pink and green boxes? When I purchased mine only few months ago I'd say the box had shades of teal. And I've seen "older" boxes that looked navy blue. So there are 6 different versions of the M50?!!!!

Boxes???? Mine came in this half-sphere contraption. Kinda like a beach-ball cut in half, and the top unscrews from the flat base. It was the same grooved silvery material as the rings on the outside of the cups.

In all seriousness though, that kinda packaging would be rather cool, I'd think. Annoying to ship/stack, maybe, but still cool.

As an aside, these phones are easy to mod, and following the numerous guides on here, I've achieved at least 3 iterations I've loved. I'm STILL experimenting

I'm sure you'll enjoy these regardless of what colour box you get. Black, white, blue, pink, mahogany, turqouise, auburn, Lee 004 Medium B*st*rd Amber...

I have the white box 50s from B&H and they may be the best headphone I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of them.  I purchased what I would call a defective pair of 50s from ebay that sounded like crap and returned them and ordered a pair from B&H and after over 100 hours of burn in they are awesome sounding.  And combined with the Fiio E7/E9 DAC/Amplifier combo I am in sonic heaven.  It brought the mids forward toned the treble down and the bass is fabulous.  I highly recommend.  I think there is some validity to the Headfonia article.

What kinds of genres do you listen to and how good is the E7 bass boost paired with the m50's? The reason I ask is because I am holding off on getting an E7 just to see how the newer E11 will match up to it. I assume the bass boost on both will be similar. Does it mess up the clarity at all?

According to those guys over "  forum.recordingreview.com" , the new ( post 2008) M50/M50s have cheaper parts and sounds like a walkie- talkie. They bought from E-Bay so I wonder that they simply bought the knock-off cans.

Speaking of B & H, I tip my hat to their customer service and I only buy headphones on line  from B & H or J & R and Electronic Expo.

I was about to reply then noticed your little seriousness indicator

So what's colour of your box ? The guitar center has the M50 s ( straight cord)  version and the box is white with the el cheapo clear plastic window . The flap to open is also difference than the one comes with the A700/900.  The guys on E-bay have the Blue and WHITE box looks like the one come with the A700/ A900 . Could be an M50 vs the M50s model !

Here you go.I do the home work for you. The burn in time maybe different from the White box  vs. the Blue / White box but do not listen to the box itself just the cans.

I wanted the M50 for the big bass and was bummed upon hearing that the "newer" version was less bass heavy.  I picked up a pair a few weeks ago and am very glad they don't have any more bass than they do.  WOW!  It's a bit OTT on some some stuff - but a really fun HP and for the price - whatever - everyone should own a pair.
