Sennheiser Accentum Open - I call them the "SennPods"
Pros: Very comfortable in the ear
Tiny and lightweight case
Solid sound quality
Open design
Battery life
Bluetooth stability + Multipoint (Bluetooth 5.3)
Solid call quality
General ease of use
Cons: No app support (can be seen as a pro and a con of course)
No wireless charging
No hi-res audio codecs
Hinge of the case
General lack of your typical "features" (same as with app support, could be a pro and a con)
So, here they are now - the first open and stem style earbuds from Sennheiser, the "Accentum Open". They look a lot like a mix of the Apple AirPods 3/4 and the Nothing Ear 1, actually. As you can see below, I have the black version of them but they are also availbe in white.

In my brief time with them so far, this is what I think of them:

  • The case is quite tiny and very easily pocketed.
  • The matte black finish is quite nice but it still attracts some fingerprints.
  • The lid feels a tiny bit loose on my unit. The magnets for the buds, however, are quite strong and secure.
  • They need to be „activated“ upon first use (basically charge them for a couple of seconds via USB-C for them to turn on!)
  • There is no wireless charging available on them!
  • There is no app (needed). Adds a lot to the ease of use in everday life, actually, but it also means there won't be additional features and/or firmware updates down the road.

  • Pairing was easy on my iPhone as well as my MacBook Pro (they support multipoint).
  • Speaking of multipoint, it works nicely so far on both devices.
  • Bluetooth range and stability are very good as far as I can tell.
  • Accentum Open are very comfortable and sit firmly in my ears!
  • The open style is like having a natural transparency mode active all the time which is quite handy but there is no ANC (obviously as per design).
  • The touch surfaces on the left and right stems work as intended (play/pause, next/previous track, volume up and down).
  • They automatically pause the music when you take them out of the ear(s).
  • A single bud can used while the other one charges in the case.
  • The sound of the 11mm drivers is very clear and energetic. Volume is good and more than loud enough and there is quite a bit of bass even for an open style set of true wireless buds!

  • Battery life is pretty good (up to 6.5h per charge and up to 28h in total) and more than enough for this kind of product for me.
  • Call quality is definitely above average as well. No complaints from other people so far. They use dual-beamforming microphones for that.
  • They are IPX4 rated, which is good for an "open style" earbud.
  • The Accentum Open only support SBC and AAC with regard to audio codecs which I don't even consider a con given there intended use case and their design - they still sound good due to their quite "exciting" tuning.

Compared to an AirPod Pro 2

So, who are these buds for in the world of so many wireless earbuds and true wireless offerings?

Well, I think they are a very good choice for people who want very comfortable and easily pocketable earbuds with a good battery life that just sound good while they can still be aware of their surroundings which can be a huge plus if you want exactly that! They are a bit like open back headphones in a tiny earbud form factor.

Overall, they are a great, and also fairly affordable, choice if you can do without ANC, app support and all the (for some people certainly) "unnecessary" additional features that they might not even need or want in such a product. The Accentum Open just work without a lot of fuss. Put them in your ear and go ahead with your life while listening to a couple of great tunes on the go. It might not be a product for everyone out there (but then again which product is!?) but for those of you who value ease of use and easily accessible good wireless sound quality - the Accentum Open are certainly a recommended option.
