Brief Introduction to Colorfly CDA M1
Colorfly pretty well-known as DAP maker before, but they kinda quiet lately with no new product on 2020. They back from their hiatus on 2021 with their flagship IEM Colorfly Quintet and entry level USB DAC Dongle Colorfly CDA M1.

CDA M1 use Colorfly α (ESS customized DAC) which also used on their flagship DAP Colorfly U8, it does provide 4.4mm balanced and 3.5 Single Ended, you can also switch between high-load and low-load depends on what kind of cans used on (will explained later)

For measurement you can refer to L7AudioLab here:
https://www.l7audiolab.com/f/colorfly-cda-m1-topping-hs-01/

Good and Bad based on my Experience:
The Bad:
- Low noise if paired with android 9 and lower
- Colorfly don’t provide any lightning cables (not even optional)
- A bit hot after using for few hours

The Good:
- Sound Quality
- Good Power
- Really competitive price
- High-load and Low-load to match cans

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using Nova 5t or laptop with windows 10 as front-end, and Modded Anole VX (tone down the uppermid to lower treble which result a bit thicker and less fatiguing while still keeping up the technical) and K501 as Cans.

High Frequency
Clean and crisp treble, good lining and rich of detail, pretty good control

Mid Frequency
Midrange is very prominence, the most ear-catching. It’s durable, fuller and well balanced. Neutral timbre, both male and female vocal is excellent, there is noticeable distance between voice and instrument. Lining sense is really good both for vocal and instrument

Low Frequency
Thick but not muddy, good weight note, dive deep, good enough atmosphere with really good texture, possibly the best bass response from source on its price range

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution:
Soundstage pretty wide, but the most impressive is the depth, it’s considerably deep with good layering, height also pretty good.
Resolution is better than average for the price range.
it’s the cheapest source that I’ve tried which can easily give big spherical sense.

Balanced Out vs Single End
Balanced out with bigger room and more loose compared with Single-ended, there is also bigger low frequency volume on Single-ended. Power doubled from balanced out. The rest is pretty much the same

High-Load vs Low-Load
Low-Load with red light on PCM or lower format and blue light on DSD file format, High-Load with white light on PCM or lower format and purple light on DSD file format.

Low-load sound softer and more relaxed while on High-load is denser and fuller sound. It’s more noticeable on current hungry cans such as AKG K501.
For multi-driver I do recommend low-load for easier to listen.

Personal Comment
This dongle caught me off guard, I didn’t expect good sound coming from sub $100, it’s value absolutely outstanding.
I think I don’t need to review Hiby FC5 because I don’t see the reason why I should buy it over this one
Colorfly CDA M1 sound quality also close to what Cayin RU-6 offers, it’s obviously have much better soundstage presentation. But RU-6 still has its own charm on vocal presentation and the unique warmth which absolutely good for some people

Should I buy Colorfly CDA M1?
No doubt! It’s the best value DAC Dongle I’ve tried and it’s gonna be my staple recommendation for source sub $200. As the title say, Colorfly CDA M1 really give nightmare to their competitor.

Recommendation Level: ★★★★★
Very easy to recommend!

That’s all my review of Colorfly CDA M1, hope it helps, Cheers~

@XeLLoZ no, there is no dedicated LO, it's quite rare for usb dongle to have its own dedicated LO

@XeLLoZ I think Questyle M12 has an auto detect system, plug in headphone lower than 70 Ohm it's low gain, higher than 70 Ohm it's high gain. Higher than 600 Ohm it becomes line out at 2 Vrms.

Typically a dedicated amp source input will be higher than 600 Ohm I think. Not sure if it's something you want but it's the only thing I can think of lol.

Also I'm having a hard time deciding if I want CDA M1 or Caying RU1 or Questyle M12 LOL. They all seem to have their different pros and cons.

Brief Introduction to TForce Yuan Li
It’s first time I hear TForce when local seller ask me if I want to try new IEM. The information that I know come from their fanpage, so it’s better to read the introduction from TForce below:
1627880690077.png

TForce Yuan Li is their first product which using Single 10mm DLC Dynamic Driver, since this is only the Demo unit, there is no box nor accessories, only the Driver, OCC Cable and some eartips.

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using Quloos QA390, YinLuMei A1S and F.Audio FA2 as source.

High Frequency
Clear and airy treble with good amount of quantity, good control, enough brightness without being harsh or fatiguing, extension quite good just there is a bit roll-off in the upper register which is kinda expected since it’s single DD.

Mid Frequency
Transparent mid, there is slight upper mid boost which make female vocal sound sweet, really good control, there is no sibilance nor annoying peak, male and female vocal has good enough body. There is no congestion in result of good separation and layering on midrange.

Low Frequency
Flexible Bass, quite impactfull with good texture, dive quite deep with enough rumble, bass pretty linear. Speed is moderate fast. Bass will never be the star but it’s definitely good bass to support whole frequency

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution:
Soundstage width is average in the price range, but the height and depth is excellent. Separation and layering definitely above average for the price range, while resolution just a bit above average.

1627881428761.png
Comparison (vs See Audio Yume)
Build Quality
TForce Yuan Li has smaller body and glossy shiny finishing while Yume using resin with sparkly dark faceplate.

Design: TForce Yuan Li = See Audio Yume
Fitting: TForce Yuan Li > See Audio Yume

Low Frequency
The biggest differences between TForce Yuan Li and See Audio Yume in bass!
Yume is Sub-bass focused while Yuan Li more linear, Yuan Li also has more impactfull compared to Yume which is bass shy. Bass presence also much better in Yuan Li which easier to hear the texture. For bass speed, Yume is a bit slower

Low Frequency Quality : TForce Yuan Li > See Audio Yume
Low Frequency Quantity : TForce Yuan Li > See Audio Yume

Mid Frequency
At first I thought Yume has better midrange, but after A/Bing it is not, both pretty similar, Yume is smoother while Yuan Li has more upper-mid boost which make midrange a little bit more exciting to hear. I hear more micro detail from Yuan Li and it does have better layering compared to Yume

Mid Frequency Quality : TForce Yuan Li > See Audio Yume
Mid Frequency Quantity : Tforce Yuan Li = See Audio Yume

High Frequency
Once again pretty similar for both, it just Yuan Li gain upper hand in term of extension and presence, both has similar roll-off, just yume slight smoother

High Frequency Quality : TForce Yuan Li = See Audio Yume
High Frequency Quantity : TForce Yuan Li = See Audio Yume

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution
This one I would hand over to TForce Yuan Li in term of Height and depth, Yume slightly wider tho. For separation, layering and resolution Yuan Li definitely better.

Comparison Graph (TForce Yuan Li & See Audio Yume):
1627881621522.png

Personal Comment
I always love Single DD even though it will never surpass well-tuned multi driver in term of technical. TForce Yuan Li definitely enjoyable while it’s not something that give me wow factor, but it does excellent job doing every basic requirement to be called as good IEM, especially in term of value.

Should I buy TForce Yuan Li?
If you looking for good neutral balanced IEM which pretty musical and technical, TForce Yuan Li definitely one of the better choices in the market right now. It has pretty good value and can be a new Gatekeeper for IEM with price range around $100

Recommendation Level: ★★★★★
Definitely 5 stars no doubt! As long they can keep up with QC obviously

Brief Introduction to Open Audio Witch
I’ve heard Open Audio (later will be reffered as OA) since 2018, but they use illegal drugs as product names (which is not good IMO) such as Khat (2BA), Ecstasy (3BA), Marijuana (4BA), Ketamine (6BA) and Alkaid (8BA).
At beginning of 2021 they released OA Witch which use 10MM Titanium Diaphragm Dynamic Driver combined with Single BA (Bellsing 29689).
OA Witch has stunning box presentation with lot of small details (definitely a good one).
OA Witch equipped with lot of accessories such as 6 pairs eartips, Magnetic PU-Leather case, cloth wipes and lastly 4-core SPC cable.
Build quality is excellent, very light and really good fitting.

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using Quloos QA390, YinLuMei A1S and F.Audio FA2 as source.

High Frequency
Slender and clear treble with good amount of quantity, though upper treble control kinda lacking which result upper treble feels a bit fluttering.

Mid Frequency
Forward vocal, thin cold sounding, good control there is no sibilance nor harsh sound, good vocal texture

Low Frequency
Deep, powerfull, good texture elastic bass. Overall good control with few exception the bass could be lack of control if the song demand large dynamics. But it’s should be one of the best bass performer for the price range

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution
Soundstage width is good, while the depth need some work (acceptable on the price range, almost all IEM sub $200 quite lacking in depth). Instrument separation is good enough. For resolution just at the right level for the price range.

1627609441205.png
Personal Comment
Hybrid single DD and single BA, kinda hate that combination because there’s always some problem. OA witch also has that incoherency though not as bad others (like QOA vesper or Pink Lady). Put aside incoherency problem, OA witch actually quite balanced and quite good product, don’t forget it has really good box presentation and build quality

It just need to understand what OA aims with this product, definitely not an allrounder IEMs.
1627609372685.png
Should I buy OA Witch?
Depends on what you’re looking for. If your playlist full of Pop / Vocals / ACG, then OA Witch is a good to buy, but if you looking for allrounder IEMs, you can choose something else

Recommendation Level: ★★★☆☆
In the end only 3 stars recommendation, good sound is not enough for today competition. There is so many good product at low price which can offer higher value. Audio brand need more effort to acquire marketshare.

That’s all my review of Open Audio Witch, hope it helps, Cheers~

1620008198794.png

Brief Introduction to Penon Globe
Penon Audio, one of the well-known audio retailer based on Hong Kong, also known as retailer that brings “unknown” brand to international market.
Penon Globe should be the fourth IEM i tried(after Penon Sphere, Fan and Orb) from Penon Audio, using 10mm Dynamic Driver handles low frequency, 1 Sonion BA handles midrange and 1 Knowles BA handles high frequency with impedance 10 Ω so it’s supposed to be easy to drive using your phone. Globe using dark shell with colourfull marble pattern faceplate.
Penon Globe equipped with lot of accessories such as 7 pairs eartips (3 pairs S-M-L green silicone eartips and 3 pairs S-M-L orange silicon eartips and 1 pair double flange eartips), 2 Velour Pouch and Big Blue case and lastly 8-core SPC silver cable.
1620008732292.png

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using Quloos QA390, YinLuMei A1S and F.Audio FA2 as source and make sure use wide bore eartips!

High Frequency
Sparkling, airy, good detail, non-fatigue, there is slight BA timbre which some instrument can sound a bit plasticky at some track, has good enough energy to make the treble engaging

Mid Frequency
Should be the main star for Penon Globe, Poisonous Female Vocal which has good weight and imaging, Male vocal has nice weight not as charming as Female vocal but still good one. Detail is good in midrange, life-like string instrument presentation

Low Frequency
Deep bass, impactfull mid-bass, well-controlled, really good atmospheric presentation, authority bass.

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution:
Soundstage width is good, while the depth and height is excellent in Penon Globe. Instrument separation is good enough. For resolution it lacks a bit in micro-detail compared to the competitor.

1620009555292.png

Comparison (vs Blessing 1 and Reecho Insect Awaken)
1620009932820.png

Build Quality
Penon Globe has the smallest faceplate, for the body it's the second biggest. Blessing don't have stopper so it's quite picky at eartips (not all eartips can be used at Blessing). Reecho definitely has the nicest design since it's not only the faceplate but also the shell has nice glittery pattern but it's the biggest form factor

Design: Reecho Insect Awaken > Penon Globe > Moondrop Blessing
Fitting: Penon Globe > Moondrop Blessing = Reecho Insect Awaken

Low Frequency
Globe obviously has the proper DD bass, which speak a lot in quantity and quality, has the best impact and rumble which obviously at the cost of speed, Globe bass is not slow but between the three IEMs it's the slowest. It's the most atmospheric.
Blessing using DD but almost the same as BA sound, it has weak impact but still better than BA, it's fast
Insect Awaken using BA in low Frequency, while it definitely fast, it lacks authority compared to the others.

Low Frequency Quality : Penon Globe > Moondrop Blessing > Reecho Insect Awaken
Low Frequency Quantity : Penon Globe > Reecho Insect Awaken > Moondrop Blessing

Mid Frequency
Globe midrange is charming especially for Female Vocal and String instrument, has really good weight
Blessing is the thinnest and boasting lot of clarity, it's the cleanest at the cost instrument can sound weightless
Insect Awaken is the most V-shaped in this comparison, while it's clean but the vocal can sound very recessed

Mid Frequency Quality : Moondrop Blessing = Penon Globe > Reecho Insect Awaken
Mid Frequency Quantity : Penon Globe > Moondrop Blessing = Reecho Insect Awaken

High Frequency
Globe surprisingly has the most pronounced treble out of three IEMs, it's also the most aggresive treble, both the three has nice extension with Insect Awaken should be the first one to roll-off
Blessing Treble could be said more laidback compared to globe and works well with lack of note weight of blessing, it does the most airy and clean sounding
Insect Awaken the first one to roll-off and it's the darkest compared to others

High Frequency Quality : Penon Globe = Moondrop Blessing > Reecho Insect Awaken
High Frequency Quantity : Penon Globe = Moondrop Blessing > Reecho Insect Awaken

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution
Globe has the best height and depth compared to the three, but has the least width (only slight differences)
for the resolution Moondrop Blessing has the upper hand here, followed by Insect Awaken just a bit better than Penon Globe. Separation should be the same, it just globe has more note weight which can be perceived it's the worst, but after listening thoroughly i didn't find it lack any separation compared to others.

Personal Comment
Penon Globe definitely surprises me, it's not following the Harman-Neutral Target trend which pretty much hyped now, yet it's the most successfull IEM sub $400 that I spend lot of time. FYI i have around 20+ IEMs with around 10+ is more expensive than Globe, and i also borrow some IEMs from local seller (including UM Mest Mk2), in the end I spend more time listening to Penon Globe over everything else.

Sure, other cans can perform better in almost every area, but Penon Globe puts the music together in a way that lets you ignore those performance lossess. It definitely the one which let you to enjoy your music.
1620014032369.png

Should I buy Penon Globe?
Definitely it's one of top my recommendation list for IEMs sub $500 for musical, don't go for Globe if you like analytical with sheer of detail, but if you looking for IEM to connect to the music, I think this Globe will sufficient for long run.

That’s all my review of Penon Globe, hope it helps, Cheers~

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using YinLuMei A1S, KAEI DAP MK2 and F.Audio FA2 as source
1610954445825.png

High Frequency
Smooth, relaxing with just enough sparkling, airy, good detail though lacks a bit micro detail, there is Roll-off on upper –treble, non-fatigue,

Mid Frequency
Male vocal has nice position with very good imaging, rich and thick enough which give perfect weight note especially for Heavy Male Vocal (such as Zhao Peng, Christian Willisohn, Andrea Bocelli, etc), though for female vocal you will find it recessed sometime. Sibilant Free and clear midrange but Upper-mid a bit surpressed which make some instrument lacks of "bite".

Low Frequency
Deep bass, sub-bass focused, quite impactfull mid-bass, well-controlled, Good atmospheric presentation, Authority bass.

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution:
Soundstage width is good, depth is really good in Orb. Instrument separation is good. For Resolution it lacks a bit in micro-detail.
1615514065614.png

Personal Comment
First of all, Penon Orb is not your all-rounder IEM, it's warm bassy IEM so don't expect it will does well on song with lot of energy in the upper mid - lower treble area. So, which song will make the Orb shine? Male Vocal / Heavy Vocal, the heavier vocal the better. For Example: this Caruso by Christian Willisohn is presented really well, or you can choose any song from Zhao Peng. Rather than being all-rounder Orb is Very good at Heavy Vocal, probably the best in the price range

This is my third encounter with Penon IEMs, and I would say Penon really know how to tune relaxing and musical IEM. Orb still relaxing and musical, but it does very well for Heavy Vocal which reminds me with my tube speaker setup

Should I buy Penon Orb?
I would suggest Penon Orb if your playlist have a lot Heavy Vocal singer. it does excellent job at that genre for the price range. and yes Female Heavy Vocal does exist such as Chie Ayado, Imany, Shirley Bassey, Jamyang Dolma, etc

That’s all my review of Penon Orb, hope it helps, Cheers~

Brief Introduction to Penon Fan
Penon Audio, one of the well-known audio retailer based on Hong Kong, also known as retailer that brings “unknown” brand to international market.
Penon Fan is the latest IEM from Penon Audio, using 10mm full range Dynamic Driver with impedance 23 Ω so it’s supposed to be easy to drive using your phone. Fan Faceplate use stabilized wood panel which remind me to Van Gogh “Starry Night”.
Penon Fan equipped with lot of accessories such as 6 pairs eartips (3 pairs S-M-L green silicone eartips and 3 pairs S-M-L blue silicon eartips, Velour Pouch and exotic wave (or batik) pattern case with tassel and lastly 4-core brown-silver cable.

Sound Quality Evaluation
This Review using YinLuMei A1S as source
1610954445825.png
High Frequency
Smooth, relaxing with just enough sparkling, airy, good detail, there is Roll-off on upper –treble, non-fatigue, it’s the treble that suitable with any genre

Mid Frequency
A bit recessed, clear mids with a bit warmth touch which make vocal smooth and lush with good weight, still in the realm of neutral. Upper-mid a bit surpressed which make some instrument lacks of “bite” but it’s a fair trade since you get those intimate vocal and sibilant free.

Low Frequency
Deep bass, sub-bass focused, quite impactfull mid-bass, well-controlled, atmospheric, the speed isn’t the fastest DD out there but still a good one.

Separation, Soundstage & Resolution:
Soundstage width is great, depth is decent but could be better. Instrument separation is good. For Resolution just a bit better than average.

Personal Comment
Penon Fan reminds me a lot about Tipsy Dunmer, both of them share the same presentation: warm, relaxed and musical soundsig. Fan is more balanced, better technical and cleaner than Dunmer, not mentioning there is no treble harshness since dunmer can be harsh in some track.

This is my second encounter with Penon IEMs, and I would say Penon really know how to tune relaxing and musical IEM. If "Fan" stands for Fanatic, easily hooked me to become one of their “Fan” for sure.
1610954309512.png

Should I buy Penon Fan?
If you looking for “Jack of all trade, Master of none” IEM, Penon Fan is the best IEM in this price range. While it won’t do outstanding performance, Fan will do great work for most songs.

That’s all my review of Penon Fan, hope it helps, Cheers~

If I had seen this review before I got mine, I would have looked elsewhere. Relaxed and rolled off is not for me. But the problem isn't the buds--it's the tips.

The mids and highs are weirdly suppressed by the Fan's mushy stock tips. I replaced them with Comply foamies and lo and behold, the veil is entirely gone. I'd expect that some stiffer silicones would also improve things.

I also had to replace the cord; the original wasn't staying connected to one side. A $9 TRN T2 cable completely solved that problem.

Still deciding whether to keep or sell, because I have other IEMs with a similar tuning. But something about the narrow-nosed shape of these makes them extremely comfortable for long listening stretches. And once you get better tips, the sound opens up nicely.

To Penon Audio: the accessories matter. Spend a few cents more on tips and cables to make the Fan sound best.
rattlingblanketwoman
rattlingblanketwoman
Fully agree with earmonger both in issues with the cable I was first sent (had to return IEMs for rattle issue, and cable for glue and pin issues) but especially so about tip rolling.

With some Tenmak Whirlwind style tips (wide bore, short core) these sound unbelievably different, I hated my first impressions of these (nothing but veil) but now even as someone who loves some upper mid bite, I can take my hat off to the overall tuning of these. I never thought I'd say that. Makes the choice of stock tip a perplexing one.

I was trying to sell these off as soon as I could but now I have to give them longer for the sake of my integrity, there's something here, and the tuning is now one I applaud.
