    Musical Fidelity xcan v8

Regarding the DAC - I think the main issue is it stinking/sucking - but compared to hooking it up to my CD player, the level is much lower. I really have to crank it with the DAC, where as the line in from my CD player seems to have a lot more force and drive.

So what's the "correct" way to turn on tube amps with headphones?

For my X-CAN V8, I am guessing since the manual really does not even mention this is even a tube amp - there is nothing special I need to do. However, I leave my phones plugged in all the time. I only amp for 1 power cycle per day. I let it warm up for a few minutes before playing...

You guys always said how headphones sound like MUCH more expensive speakers...

You are preaching to the choir. I love my headphones and amp, but at the end of the day, a dedicated HT system and dedicated 2-channel system will be part of my life. I am just thrilled at what I was able to accomplish for $700.

They are - however, the amp really brought them to life.

You guys always said how headphones sound like MUCH more expensive speakers...

...and to get equivalent sound out of speakers would cost you 10x as much, and so on and so forth? It all sounded very fanboyish and cliche, playing into the purpose of this forum. Well, you were 100% correct. The more I use my new rig, the more impressed I am with the sound. Bass - quick...

    Goosebumps...

I have had my Denon AH-D2000's for over a year, driven off my Harman Kardon receiver (a crime, I know...) - which rock. I have had my X-CAN V8 for about 2 weeks now, and I have been using it hard to get it settled in (and to enjoy it!) Probably closing in on 200 hours (yes, I use it a LOT)...

    x can v8 appreciation thread

Wow... I have no idea what just happened. The little gremlin inside of my amp just flipped the switch from 'really good' to 'oh my god!'. After about 100 hours, this amp has just transformed itself (and its not in my head...I think). Bass is deeper, tighter, and more defined, and the mids...

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

I never said it bothered me.

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

LOL, I only hear it from the LEFT side. I will probably unplug it overnight, just to get some heat cycles on it, but regardless, I will use and enjoy it. Unrelated, but the MartinLogan Depth i sounded pretty lackluster when I first set it up - but after some loving abuse, it started to...

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

Good info, thanks! It looks like there are plenty of NEW ECC88's available, at a low price and probably a lower-quality. I will need to pop this sucker open and see what is under the hood. I imagine they are NOT using NOS in this unit. However, I will start educating myself, and probably...

What is the MSRP of the X-PSU? I might go for it, I'm crazy!!! Those tubes are HOW much!?

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

I do not hear any volume noise, and man-o-man is this volume control a beast. Should I turn it off overnight? I will probably do something with a power switch in order to not wear out the power supply (bet a new one is not cheap). Or, I'll just get the upgraded PSU Quote...

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

I though the raw file was being sent, but I guess it makes sense I am just getting a decoded, but digital file, and doing the last-step DAC with the amp. Thanks, it was a long time coming. Quote: Originally Posted by dpippel That's because your computer is doing all of the...

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

Thanks! The microphonic is not annoying - I just isolated it from the desk (literally, I put it on a glove!) I have heard the DAC is not that great, so I will take it one step at a time. How would even the VDAC be ($200)? I can run a optical or coaxial out from my computer. I have the...

    My X-CAN v8 arrived - some questions.

First, I am currently: Pure musical bliss. My AH-D2000's have never sounded better. I have a few questions I am still trying to get a better answer on: --Do you leave it on 24/7? I listen 4-12 hours a day, 7 days a week. --From a cold start, is there a warm-up period, or can I just go...

Tube life on the X-CAN V8?

Cool! I bought the headphones as soon as they were released (I wanted some very nice closed-back headphones, and bought them through a retail accommodation program without hearing or even reading anything about them) - they are awesome. However, they are being driven off my Harman Kardon...

Tube life on the X-CAN V8?

That does, thank you. With a whopping 0.5 watts @ 24 volts input, I cannot see how there would be enough power to even get these things warm (heat kills, and there is no heat!)

Tube life on the X-CAN V8?

Are we talking the tubes lasting months, or years? While I see there are what look like some good tubes for cheap, I just want to know if I should be planning on bi-annual replacement from burnouts, or maybe replacing them in 2015. I see there is no on/off switch, is this unit supposed to be...

Tube life on the X-CAN V8?

FINALLY ordered a headphone amp (Musical Fidelity X-CAN V8 as you probably guessed) for my Denon AH-D2000's. This is the first tube device I have owned, and have a question about the tube life. Assuming by the "NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE" written on the case, I am assuming the tubes...

Denon D2000 amp help (n00b alert!)

Yes, I listen to music all day while working/playing on the 'puter. So I would say rule out tube amps for this application. I would say at minimum, the amp would be on 50-60 hours a week.

Denon D2000 amp help (n00b alert!)

How easy it is to buy a replacement tube for that? I would have the thing on 12 hours a day, nearly 7 days a week. How long for warm-up? Thanks!
