help a new guy out - audio source?

Hello everyone,   I'm looking into getting a pair of HD600s. I plan using these primarily while I am working on a laptop (macbook air) while playing 320kpbs - losseless files on them. Is there some way I can plug an amp/dac into my laptop, and then plug the headphones into the amp/dac? If so...

Noob looking to get first full-size. Questions about HD-600

Hey guys,   I've had quite a few medium-range iems, but I think it's time to finally get a nice home setup. At this point I think I'm going to get the HD-600s, especially given the $300 price tag. I have a few questions though, since I'm really new to full-size cans.   Disclaimer: I am not a...

Which is the better iem for rock: Westone 2 or um2?

Which is the better iem for rock: the Westone 2 or the um2? Think Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, etc. I will be using them for other types of music as well, but the vast majority of it will be rock, and so I am most interested in getting iems that will have a suitable...

I'm going to get a pair of IEM's for Christmas that will mainly be used for rock: um2's or um3's?

I'm going to be getting a pair of IEM's for Christmas that will be used for various types of music, but MAINLY rock-type music: think Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, etc. My price range is around $300, and I'm looking at um2's and um3's. I've previously had a pair of...

Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10s (shell seperated)

I had my Triple.fi 10s for about two years now and used them everyday just fine. However, the shell on the left earbud came apart today. The blue plastic piece (what would be closer to your ear) separated from the black piece (where you plug in the cable). Nothing was damaged to my knowledge, so...

Music in different languages (most interested in Japanese)

I've been studying Japanese for a while now, and would really like some native music. Keep this in mind; having spoken word is VERY important. I would love to be able to listen to music and still be "studying" the language. I've already heard two Japanese rock groups, The Pillows and Nightmare...

    Westone UM3... whats up?

I've been waiting on news for the um3 for quite a while now. The last I heard was a march release. It's just a few days to march, so what gives? Any new info etc?

The upcoming universal iem from westone (um3, westone 3?). Will it have a removable cable (like the ue triple fi) cable? I want to hear yes, but my wallet wants to hear no. THANKS

    getting customs refit

I understand that (for ue) if your customs are more than 2 years old, and they need adjusted, you have to pay $50. Let's say I pay the $50 and send them in, but when they come back they still don't have a great seal. Do I have to pay $50 again? Or do keep adjusting it till it fits? I'm curious...

I'm very new to this sub-genre. The only artist I have heard of/ listened to is porcupine tree and I love them. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks you.

    Grado 225's sound signature.

I have heard that grado 225's are great for rock ( I will be listening to ALOT of rock with them). I was wondering, however, how they stack up in the other genres. I'm looking at everything here. Classical, electronic, jazz, reggae, punk, etc. If you could make a list of what genres they are...

    20th century/ modern classical

I just started listening to Sibelius and love his stuff. Are there any other noteworthy 20th century composers? How about modern day stuff? There has to be composers right now making classical-style music. I'm basically looking for classical from the 20th century up till 2008. Thanks for any help.

I need my first amp (mainly for grado 225's but also ue triple fi's)

I need an amp now because I plan on purchasing grado 225's. I'll start out with size. I would prefer a small, really portable one but would settle with a medium size (eg. twice the size of an ipod classic). I heard the grado's are light on bass so would like something that doesn't distort the...

Correct way to put on triple fi foam tips?

I've been wondering this a couple of days and it has been driving me crazy. On the foam tips, one side has a big hole and the other has a smaller one. I have been putting them on the triple fi's by placing the nozzle through the big side. When I looked closly, however, some of the open nozzle...

Classical noob who really needs help in the genre

I really want to get into classical music. I just have two restrictions on what you should suggest. First, I don't want anything with vocals. Second, I don't want the overplayed stuff. Example: Beethovens 5th and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. That basically pulls Beethoven and Bach out. Recommend...

    Sennheiser 595's

Two questions. Will they sound as good/better than my triple fi's (I know sound is very subjective but I want just a general idea). Also, can you lay on a pillow with them? Any other suggestions in that price range?

I just pulled the triger on my biggest audio purchase yet (and went from the bottom to the top in quality) Impressions inside

Wow.... CURSE YOU HEAD-FI!!!!! I just ordered some ue triple fi's with one day shipping. The only "good" cans I have (and have heard) are the Shure e2c's. I'll post impresions asap. (sorry I won't be able to compare it to much because of my VERY limited headphone experience). I'm so excited...

Is the Westone 3's sound signature closer to the triple fi or se530?

For what I listen to (about 65% rock, then some alternative, reggae, ska, classical, jazz, metal) I have been reccomended the triple fi's and been told to stay away from the se530's. The only other thing around that pricerange is the westone 3 which I haven't heard much about. Any suggestions?

Quad driver iem's coming from Shure and Ultimate Ears soon?

I have heard a rumor that both Shure and Ultimate Ears are readying quad driver universal iem's for next year. Can anybody confirm or deny this? I don't know whether to be happy or sad if they do (my wallet can't take much more!!).

Shure se310/410 or Ue triple fi

I am willing to spend around $400 on iem's. Right now I have the shure e2c's and love their sound signature. I've hear the se310's have a similar sound signature, but what about the triple fi? If I do go the shure route, are the se410's better than the 310's if I like the e2c's? The reason I am...

    Music for the beach

My much anticipated trip to Hawaii is now only two short weeks away so I am asking for any suggestion of good music to listen to on the beach. I'm open to anything but have a couple ideas. I have picked up a couple reggae albums and thought that was a good idea and was thinking of picking up...

Love the sound signature of the e2c's but have a compelling urge to upgrade.

Hey guys. I have (and love) the Shure e2c's. For some reason (probably reading the forums) I feel like I need to upgrade to something more expensive (Thanks head-fi!!!). Anyway, I would like iem's similar to their sound signature and am willing to spend in the $400 range. Thanks for any help...
