Portable DAC/amp with both USB-C and analog in?

Oh, that looks promising, too! A little closer to what I was expecting to pay, and might fit in non-cargo pants! Reading reviews now. Thanks!

Portable DAC/amp with both USB-C and analog in?

Thanks! I came across that as one of the top google hits in looking for reviews. Spent the evening digging in. Great thread (as are so many here). The interchangeable component idea is really interesting, and quite the rabbit hole. Probably more than I need --- but it does suggest a longer life...

Portable DAC/amp with both USB-C and analog in?

Oh! Thanks. That could be just the ticket. A little more money than I wanted to spend, but spending some time saving up makes it all the more worthwhile. I’ll go read the other thread here about it.

Portable DAC/amp with both USB-C and analog in?

Has anyone seen such a beast? I'd like to use It with my phone (USB-C) and my DAP.. I've done a bit of searching, and haven't found anything that foots the bill.

Focal Bathys - Wireless ANC Over-Ear Headphone

I just tried them with an iPhone 15 Pro or whatever the bigger iPhone 15 is, and it worked fine. Switch on the second (USB-C) click. Maybe the headphone battery is low and it’s trying to charge from the iPhone?

Focal Bathys - Wireless ANC Over-Ear Headphone

I don't have a good DAC/amp to test with, but I'll point out something that I learned that surprised me --- the 3.5" in goes through an ADC, through the DSP section, and then through the internal DAC back out. So I'd be curious to hear what others say, and would not be surprised if it doesn't...

    Boox Palma as a DAP...

I picked up a Onyx Boox Palma, the 6" e-ink tablet from Onyx, ostensibly to use as an Android-based e-reader (It runs Android 11) running Kindle and a few other apps. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB-C. It's US$279.99 from Onyx, or the usual superstores like Amazon. It has a microSD card with...

Dongles vs DAPs (What do you prefer?)

I think this is absolutely true. And on the notion that DAPs are dumb Android phones these days, I largely agree with that, up to a point. I do appreciate having software tailored for my listening, as opposed to futzing around with the rest of Android, so the skins most vendors put together are...

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Yeah, let’s see What the A&K folks say — there’s one person (I’m sorry, I can’t remember your name!) who posts here on and off. I can’t imagine that it would hurt, though.

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Great questions, and congrats on your puchase. I think you’ll like it very much. On (1), I upgraded and had no problems. I tend to do that when I get something to make sure I have the latest security patches and what have you. I’m not tracking when new versions of those apps come out and...

Dongles vs DAPs (What do you prefer?)

I've been a DAP person for a few years now. I started with one of the low-to-midrange Sony DAPS -- the NW-A57, I think --- and recently moved up to an A&K SR35. My primary reason to start with the Sony was that I was going into the office everyday, my music collection didn't fit on my phone, and...

    Sony WF-1000XM5

The Comply memory foam ones are what I use. Squish them dow, and then they expand to fit your ear. Slightly better isolation, too.

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Interesting. So maybe exFAT works sometimes, and other times it doesn't. That wouldn't surprise me. FWIW, yeah, indexing that many files does take a while for a first pass. After that on power-on it's quite snappy, all things considered.

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Well, color me stupid. It helps to have WiFi on. And be patient. Thanks for letting me know so I'd give it another try! Off to stream some Real Jazz while I make dinner!

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Thanks! I gave it a go. I installed it, and it launches but never gets past the splash screen. But it was worth a try!

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

Thanks!! I'm loving mine. On the topic of whitelisting, I'd love to see the SirusXM app (yeah, I know, poor audio quality!) and Pocketcasts whitelisted as well. That --- especially Pocketcasts --- would totally eliminate the need for my cell phone when I'm out and about. That said, I do get...

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

A That I can't comment on --- I don't have a pair., just consumer stuff (the Bose and an old pair of V-Modas). But I'd be curious to know, too.

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

OK, so update & happy customer here. MTP is in fact slow. But the real problem I had --- the media player quitting and restarting --- was due to a microSD formatted as exFAT, not FAT. I knew the difference, just pulled the card from my other device and popped it in expecting it to index the...

    Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

So, I received mine this week, and while a beautiful unit, I've had nothing but trouble. 1. MTP to the microSD is unusably slow. I've got a high-speed Lexar 1TB card, and in using MediaMonkey to copy files, it times out about every ten files. So I have given up on that and transferred my library...

    Should I get a DAP?

I've had the Sony NW-A57 for a a couple of years, which I'd used with both a pair of inexpensive IEMs and my Bose headphones. I found it to have a few advantages over my phone, which others have mentioned: 1. It's smaller, so around the house and out and about while running it's just easier to...

    New Member Introductions thread

Howdy, all. My name's Ray. I've been moving up the ladder from quality sound for a long time. I don't consider myself an "audiophile", just someone who wants to like what he hears, and who is gradually becoming more discerning when he listens to music, and who prefers dedicated hardware for my...
