Good Lord 2 hours!???
In Astell & Kern Kann Ultra original Samsung Pro Plus 512GB card
exFAT File System. (approx. 400GB of data)
Indexing time 2-3 minutes.
I didn't actually measure it. It could have been less or more. It doesn't bother me that it took so long because it only does that for the first indexing as long as I don't take the card out. Subsequent additions of files doesn't take very long.

I recently bought an sr35 ( late November). I took my exFat sandisk 1TB microsd from my Sony NWA55 and installed it into my SR35, turned on the SR35 and waited for it to build an index. It did so relatively quickly ( I dont remember how long it took) and then it worked. It is somewhat slow for some things but it works well. I was surprised to read that an exFat micro sd card would not work for you. I have not noticed any problems of songs starting and stopping. Interestingly enough, before I wrote the above I decided to check the formatting of the micro sd card. I used the AK eject the micro sd card feature, put the card in my Mac and found that is indeed formatted as exfat. When I put the card back into the sr35, the sr35 found it, but it had to rebuild the index. It took less then 2 hours to get most of the way through the files. I have 664 GB of files on the micro sd card. If the index doesn't get all the way through he files, I will let you know.
Interesting. So maybe exFAT works sometimes, and other times it doesn't. That wouldn't surprise me.

FWIW, yeah, indexing that many files does take a while for a first pass. After that on power-on it's quite snappy, all things considered.

What desktop DAC/AMP has similar sound signature as SR35? I mean: so black background, great definition/clarity, smooth non-fatiguing mids and highs, great sense of space, possibility to precisely distinguish and follow individual instruments and vocals, nicely resolve busy passages, etc...?
Is there something like that as desktop solution without battery?
I hoped for A&K ACRO L1000 desktop DAC/AMP to be an answer, but according to many reviews it seems like not so good product overall.

I am not sure why the battery disqualifies a unit? I bought a CA1000 to keep on my end table for my full sized headphones. I keep it plugged in all the time as the charging ceases when the battery is full. It has a full rich sound and most importantly acts as a Roon endpoint. I purchased mine from Amazon UK as a new unit for the price of $706 delivered to the US(about 8 days). Current exchange rates have it at $723 delivered. A deal I could not refuse.

I simply do not plan to move the device around, it will be fixed in place, so it would just bother me to 'take care' of the battery. As I understand (and by the experience with laptops) battery will die out very quickly if it is constantly plugged. It means then a constant plug/unplug action to save the battery which I will not use.
I would really wish to see a proper desktop solution from A&K without battery...

@JasonNYC

This is getting a bit frustrating... No updates at all? anything?
Apple Classical is currently being tested on all players to be added to the whitelist. I do not have an ETA on that or any of the other items. I hopefully should have some more concrete updates after the new year.

I also have been discussing the idea of completely eliminating the whitelist as an option going forward.

:L3000: :thumbsup:

That would be fantastic and solve all of my concerns! Thank you for responding.

Still waiting to hear the updated firmware release schedule for 2024. Next firmware release is for the KANN Ultra to add Roon Ready support which was supposed to be this week, but was pushed back a week due to an issue found while testing. That sets all other future player firmware releases back a bit.

@JasonNYC

Is this device abandoned already? There hasn't been any updates on firmware changes for the whitelist... That was something I was expecting to happen, to add Roon ARC and Apple Classical (at a minimum). Boy, I really dislike the whitelist... :wink:
FYI, the next SR35 firmware update is expected around the end of January. Once I have the confirmed date and list of changes, I will share.

When SR35 is in usb-dac mode, can the battery charging be disabled/paused? Thanks in advance.

That is really good question! So far I somehow understood that all those DAPs (I suppose including SR35) have just some overcharging protection but I never heard of the option to disable charging in USB-DAC mode. However it is true I never explicitly asked if something like that exist for SR35 :k701smile:

According to my understanding, in general the best battery longevity is achieved if battery is used somewhere between 20% and 80% (roughly). If it is constantly kept near 100% then it will die after short time - it will lose a lot of its capacity after just let's say 3 years (experience with lap tops). So, overcharging protection will help a bit but not entirely, because protection will just stop charging when 100% is reached and then re-activate charging again after it drops for just a couple of percent.

@JasonNYC could you please shed some more light? It would be perfect if it could be added through the firmware to disable/enable battery charging when in USB-DAC mode, or even better to implement some automatic battery management, to specify at what exact battery percent charging automatically starts and percent when it ends (while in USB-DAC mode).

Thanks.
