Fiio amps?
Anybody try one of these cheap, tiny headphone amps? Seems to be the company as Meizu. I have one on order. Don't expect much, but then I didn't pay much and would love to be surprised. Selling point for me is its tiny size. My Sony A818 drives ER-4Ps great but I prefer the 4S...- sugarinthegourd

Anyone working on a LOD for Sony NWZ?
These certainly have line out pins on the WM-Port. Any know if there is a DIY connector available, or if anyone's working on a dock? It may be a moot point, as I understand these drive a lot of phones well without an amp... thanks, John- sugarinthegourd

Help me pick a new Flash-based player!
I'm going to get away from HD-based iPods and I am ready to get a new flash-based player. Here are my criteria: - Size: 8 - 16GB - SQ: want great SQ. What I've heard from nanos hasn't blown me away. I will most likely be using with an amp (Penguin caffeine -- could go to fancier amp if I...- sugarinthegourd

Tritone Paradox
For those who haven't encountered it before, this auditory illusion is quite fascinating. http://www.cs.ubc.ca/nest/imager/con...ons/TT/tt.html Which set of tones sounds higher-pitched to you at 110 Hz? At 160 Hz?- sugarinthegourd

Why use XLR connectors in balanced headphone rig?
Maybe I'm missing something, but XLR connectors have 3 pins, and each channel of a headphone only uses 2 conductors. So it seems that you could do just as well with 2 mono phone plugs, right? Or am I missing something? There must be some reason why balanced rigs use XLR jacks. Is the 3rd pin...- sugarinthegourd

IC: Philly meet?
Well, I missed the last couple meets. Any interest in another Philly meet sometime soon? I guess one challenge will be to find a venue...I'll see if I can think of something. Or if not, is there anyone in the area who would like to get together and sample some 'phones and amps? I don't...- sugarinthegourd

Anyone re-cased Porta Corda mkIII?
I have one of these amps (DAC-less version) and like it a lot but I'm not loving the case: - it's quite long -- longer than a full-sized iPod - it's kinda homely & I'm not crazy about the belt clip - the plug for the AC adapter requires that the battery & cover be removed & left off while...- sugarinthegourd

Warning: bad iPod lineout dock from eBay
OK, I ordered one of these from eBay a few weeks ago from seller ming0120_0: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=230159851169 While I was waiting, his eBay account was apparently suspended -- don't know why. After waiting a couple weeks, I emailed him to make sure it had been shipped...- sugarinthegourd

Most ridiculous tweak?
There are a lot of tweaks out there that fall under the heading of "ridiculous." (Remember the green markers you were supposed to use on the edges of your CDs to stop the light from getting out?) What's your favorite? I'll start the ball rolling with my nomination, a $485 wooden volume knob...- sugarinthegourd

Help me pick some street 'phones
Hi folks, I love my Grado SR60s but they're just a bit too big for me to feel comfortable in walking around the city, going to work, etc. And the iPod earbuds really aren't cutting it for me. So I'm trying to figure out what to get for walking around town with. I'll be using a 4th gen...- sugarinthegourd

Help! Just got HD650s
Hi folks, As you can see by my post count I'm fairly new here. I got my first set of decent headphones, Grado SR60s, a couple years back, and they were a real revelation. I've since become interested in exploring more, and just a few days ago my Meier Porta-Corda arrived. Then yesterday...- sugarinthegourd

Split AV-710 line out to powered speakers & headphone amp?
Hi, Most of the time I've got my PC hooked up to basic Altec-Lansing desktop speakers/subwoofer. But when the Corda Porta I just ordered gets here, I'd like to be able to run the line out from my PC into that, and then into my headphones. How are others doing this? OK to use a Y-cable to...- sugarinthegourd

Just ordered a Meier PORTA CORDA MkIII
Had been shopping around for awhile for an amp to go between my iPod nano and my Grado SR-60s. My older HD iPod drove the Grados pretty well, but the nano seems to have a less-robust amp. Anyway, I'm excited about the prospects for this one. Was originally looking at sub-$50 cmoys, then...- sugarinthegourd
