What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Jeff Beck - Wired Japan SACD just arrived, but not without a fight from my mailbox :triportsad: thankfully I got it out completely unscathed. Blow by Blow and Rough and Ready are teriffic albums but there is just something about Wired that really clicks with me. What a musician. RIP Jeff Beck. -
Keyboards?
geekhack has a similar feel/vibe to head-fi and is still active. I think DROP owns the site now though. Would also check out zFrontier and maybe keebtalk. Would recommend Deskthority too since they have a large userbase in Europe but I heard issues with site owners being MIA. At least the wiki...- carbonF1

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...
Some new additions for 2024, the Holo Audio Bliss KTE h/p amp and Red network streamer. Very impressed with both! I think the Red especially can save me some money that was being used to buy CDs, and put that towards some new headphones. Still going strong with the HD800S!- carbonF1

High End Cables Thread (digital, analog, power)
Good to read you were able to get a Dragon48! It really is something... cheers :beerchug: Different note - anyone notice the new Theta and Gamma cables from Shunyata? They replace the Delta and Venom/Venom-X cables. The claim to fame for these is the PMZ process being brought to the new product...- carbonF1

Introducing Shanling SCD1.3 - New SACD player
Nice to see more options for SACD playback. I think the other post is referring to the additional 'handshake' that was on their older model, the Memory Player. That model required the DirectStream DAC for DSD over IIS, but the Perfectwave SACD transport removed that handshake and DSD over IIS...- carbonF1

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Tonight's listens: The Pick of Destiny - Tenacious D: Wow, I forgot how funny this album is. I wasn't really looking to add it to my collection but saw it come up from the same seller I bought another album from on Discogs. Figured why not... Master Exploder is my favorite. The movie isn't... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Yes, I use the PS Audio SACD Transport to a Directstream Jr. DAC. The ‘raw’ DSD output is quite something. But you are right, most SHM-SACDs are single layer stereo SACDs and won’t work on a regular CD player. IIRC, the SHM-SACD of A Love Supreme uses a compressed master and many seem to prefer... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Fresh in: The Who - Who’s Next (SHM-SACD). This one sounds quite a bit different than the 1995 remix I’m used to. Baba O’Reily sounds kind of dark and muddy…not my favorite, but the other tracks are growing on me. These are my three favorite Miles albums also, and I agree, the MoFi In a Silent... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
The Who - Quadrophenia. Just arrived today. 2012 DSD transfer. The nice thing about this being on the SHM-SACD, it's all on one disc! No need to get up halfway through to change discs :) -
Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
I would not, especially as an even swap. Double that if it’s not the newer MB card. I did the whole AIO thing (Asgard 3 + 9028) for just under a year and sold it. Put the $ back into the main system and don’t regret it. I miss my OG Bifrost 2 sometimes, you might also.- carbonF1

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
I'm not sure what's gotten into me but I've decided I must have every master of JT available on CD. The Stereo Sound SACD arrived earlier today and I haven't been able to put it down. It's my favorite so far. I don't think there's a bad version of this album out there, worth a listen :smile_phones: -
Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Out of curiosity I looked up the Pay in 4 and it does not seem too bad. 0% and can be used with a debit card. But the monthly with an APR at up to 35.99%...?! Wow. Kudos to Schiit for not having this stuff on their checkout pages. It seems to be everywhere these days. I'm looking at a new DAC...- carbonF1

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
It is always a good day when a bunch of new discs arrive all at once. Three MoFi SACDs and another three CDs from Sumerian Records. Naturally, I gravitated to the MoFi discs first... Doolittle - Pixies Nilsson Schmilsson - Harry Nilsson Both just incredible. The best I've ever heard these... -
Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Why is my spidey sense tingling that someone is going to try and connect Urd to their PlayStation 5 and be utterly disappointed...they might get better results from a smart toaster. I always enjoy the chapters and found this one especially helpful. It answered a few questions I had about Unison...- carbonF1

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
This looks cool, I haven't used this device specifically but tried a similarly priced device recently (ifi iPurifier 3), it produced a blacker background and more pronounced/tighter bass, but I ended up returning it to buy more music instead. I like this device better already since from the...- carbonF1

High End Cables Thread (digital, analog, power)
Anyone dabble in I2S (HDMI) cables here? I recently acquired an Audioquest Dragon 48 (used) and the results are simply incredible... it's been about 10-15 hours and already the sound is much more holographic and there's a greater sense of depth to the music compared to the Thunderbird 48 it...- carbonF1

Massdrop HD 6xx: Too much PUNCH and SLAM!
I would go back to the stock ear pads first, then try EQ. I’ve read a number of posts about increased bass on Dekoni ear pads with HD6XX/HD650.- carbonF1

Affordable Roon Core Device?
A small NUC would do the job but the Mac Mini is also a good choice and likely has a better power supply. I am using my 2015 i5 MacBook Pro only for Roon and it does a good job, no issues even when processing my DSD256 tracks. I don’t currently use DSP or other features heavy on the CPU, total...- carbonF1

USB Cables
With a Scarlett 4i4 and Asgard 3, I would not really worry about an audio specific cable. I use an Anker branded USB-C to USB-A cable on my Asgard 3 and it performs well. The main thing to look for is that the cable meets/is built to USB specifications.- carbonF1

NITSCH x Schiit Magni Piety - Impressions Thread
During my lunch break today, I decided to finally open and set up the Piety I ordered last November. I waited this long for personal reasons but I say enough is enough. It's only been a few hours but first impressions, this Magni seems to be all about the midrange. For better or worse, it...- carbonF1

Calling all HD 800, HD 800S, and HD 8XX owners
Adding a comments box to the end of the survey might have been useful, but I guess that can be solved here. For cable length, I think this varies on the application. When I used HD800S at my desk, the stock cable was too long. Now that my setup is in my living room, the stock cable is too...- carbonF1
