    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

I've been using my SA-1 for 7 months now as my first Headphone Amp and it's been great, but my neck isn't doing so great so I'm moving over to speakers. Would it work to run my SA-1 as a preamp and then into a power amp which then goes into the speakers? The speakers in question are a pair of...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Give the new First Fragment a try. It will absolutely blow your mind, possibly more than Archspire. They're both some of the best at what they do - we're lucky to have so many different bands with their own unique sound and twists. I find the new FF sounds incredibly natural and pleasant...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I feel like there aren't too many options with Planar in terms of price unless you've got insane money to spend. I may be wrong though. I've tried the LCD-X, Hifiman Arya, and Empy mainly when it comes to Planar. I found the LCD-X really nice for metal, though they were impossible to wear for...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

My pair of Philphones will arrive in a few weeks. I'll let ya'll know what I think. I've never had biodyna foster before so it will be interesting. I've decided to downgrade from my Borealis due to neck issues, the Philphones are basically an improved open back x00 in a audio technica ad700x...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I'm happy they sound better to you. I haven't pad rolled the 6x0s myself but as you said it does change the sound and people specifically like the tonality of the 6x0s, so I reckon that's why people diss on pad rolling the 6x0s. Whatever works works though.

I really don't know how to help you but since you're from the NL I assume you also bought it from Magnahifi? Just know that if anything goes wrong they're great guys to deal with and will do anythnig they can to help.

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

I've been using for every day 10 hours a day since July and I may be remembering incorrectly but I feel like after a few hundred hours they became more natural sounding. I know someone else mentioned it becoming more bassy over time, I think this may actually be the case. I used to feel like I...

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

Sounds like a good idea. If my budget increases in the future I too will likely get a Soloist 3x. The rebel amp is another option in the price range, though.

    Rebel Amp

Hey guys, 2 quick questions... 1. How long does this usually stay in stock for? Right now I don't really have the money for it but I'm looking to sell a pair of headphones but it may take up to 1 month to sell. 2. How does this compare the SA-1? That's the amp I'd be coming from. Honestly I...

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

It's indeed a huge pain. It can drive an hd650 and (IIRC from my testing) ZMF on low gain, but that just doesn't sound good, to be honest. My Borealis sounds good on low gain but that's the only one that's sounded good on low gain. The 650 on low gain sounds much less dynamic, too soft, boring...

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

Awesome. I actually forgot, I did try the ZMF cans on XLR once and I thought they had wonderful microdynamics, when I later asked a very experienced friend he said that he actually thinks they aren't too good, which might point to XLR helping with that. I will be getting the cheapest version of...

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

Thank you, but what I meant is what differences did you notice between SE and XLR on the sa-1, specifically? Like, what can I expect to change in this specific case?

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

Thanks for the responses, I know the point is that it can run balanced but how does it actually affect sound? It seems like it's a positive change, but what changes, exactly?

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

So I'm trying to decide if I want to keep this amp long term or sell it. So far I've only tested the SE output. I just wanted to quickly ask: does using the balanced output improve sound with the SA-1? Is it a significant difference? I know a lot of people said that was the case with Schiit amps...

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I don't think there's much else to try, I just wanted to make sure to ask just in case, since it can still make a difference.

    Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

Please tell me you've EQ'd the upper mids into the same dimension as the rest of the headphone. Many people say you shouldn't even bother with an LCD series headphone if you don't EQ because well, it's veiled as all hell. I tried this myself and the LCD-X went from sounding completely dead to...

    Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

I've only heard the X , 2C and Clear MG but I'd say sidegride. I mean technically it may be an improvement but based on what I've heard others say the X is more different from the 2F than superior. Also, Clear MG is pretty divisive. I personally did not enjoy it. I ended up going with the Bori...

Is 'slam'/'macrodynamics'/'impact' a real thing? (Outside of frequency response)

I agree with what the first response in the thread said. I've also had the Arya and I wound up not liking them due to sounding so dead. I now use the Borealis and I can confirm, it's very real. I feel like it's very noticable in chuggy guitar riffs in metal, especially. I mean like you said it's...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I don't really know what the real world differences (sound wise) are of digital vs analogue EQ but if it's good enough for basically every reviewer then yeah, I'd say it's good enough. Analogue may actually be better in some ways, I'm not experienced with them, but it really shouldn't be a problem.

Get Equalizer APO and it's PEACE plugin. That's basically all you need in the EQ department.

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

So, I promised to give my impressions of the Borealis for metal and it's taken almost a month for me to write these initial impressions because I realize I'm new to the hobby (half a year now?) and don't want to fool myself and give bad advice during the honeymoon period due to bias. Basically...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Yes but the upper mids are so painfully boosted on the 600 so listening to distorted guitar is painful, and according to Metal571 you can't even EQ the grain away in the upper mids, so even if you lower them it will still be painful. I'll give an example of what I like: on my Bori the upper mids...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

So I've owned my 650 for 4 months now and used them as my daily driver for 2 months or so. I've since tried a lot more headphones and wanted to talk about something I don't often hear when people discuss the hd650. This isn't a warning, it's just something to keep in mind, as it can be both...

    Singxer SA-1 / Balanced Amplifier Fully Discrete Class A - beyond THX 888 ?!

I just wanted to drop by and give some totally unsolicited advice real quick. If someone has a 6x0 go ahead and try it on high gain. I've been using my new Bori for the last 3 weeks and just wanted to try my 580 and 650 and compare, but they sounded HORRIBLE to me (very, very unengaging, no...

    Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

See for me there are a couple of issues, 1. The only real option as told by someone talked to who have owned (I think?) every Audeze is to use stock pads because the seal is very important. I much prefer non leather stuff, or need at least something perforated, I sweat like a pig with leather...
