The "correct" way to get 5V/3.3V from 24V?

I found a nice +/-12V +5V transformer I'm using for a project that has some logic circuits and relays. Not the cheapest way but since relays are pretty hungry it was the best way by far.

    EMI and Ferrite Chokes

Just to complete the above answers: Common mode chokes lets even high frequency signals through. A pair of wires carrying a signal results in a net magnetic field of zero as the signal travels both ways. An outside disturbance only travels in one direction through the choke. There's a...

volume of headphone and volume of computer?

Always have digital volume controls maxed out! By using the digital volume control you decrease the resolution and dynamics of the signal. The noise, as AdamZuf has mentioned, will be amplified more as well. The more you amplify the signal in the poweramp the more you amplify the noise.

    Newbie with noisy computer/HD600

Problem with getting a silent computer in Europe is cost, most notably fans since Panaflo's aren't available here. But in order of importance: Passively cooled northbridge, Zalman has a few to choose from, around 6€ or so. Passively cooled graphics card, again Zalman, heatpipe solutions...

    Whoa, Front Panel Express!

Yeah front panel express and their european counter part are really nice to deal with. I had this made: Opted not to countersink the volume knob since I wasn't sure about how good the tolerances would be but I regret it now. The paper thing will be replaced with a back lit film so I...

Difficult to convert MG Head from 110 Volts to 230V ?

A 300W stepdown transformer can be had for about 400SEK here in sweden from www.kjell.com so it's probably the cheapest route.

    CMOY/Meta Amp for PC

ATX Powersupplies all deliver -12V and -5V with enough oomph to drive an amp. Get a common mode choke on the cables supplying your amp to get rid of some of the noise.

    Gilmore Amp - Wot's the Integrator Do .. ?

Quote: DC only means the voltage does not alternate polarity, it doesn't mean the voltage remains constant over time. So an AC voltage becomes a DC voltage if you move the ground reference below the lowest point of the original AC voltage? Better to divide all voltage in to a DC...

    Good RCA plugs???

Got plugs and cable from Maplin in the UK. The connectors were £1.99 each and the cable £1.99 per meter. It's 8mm in diameter and pearlescent white which doesn't photograph very well but it looks very good in real life.

    CD-R Labelling (Mac)

Modern CD-Rom drivers spins so fast it's a bad idea if you're going to use it with a computer at all. A loose label means terminal failure of the drive in most cases. The Epson Stylus Photo 900 can print directly on CD's and that's the only thing I'd recommend for making pretty labels. At...

    Feedback on idea wanted

Technically very difficult to accomplish, would have to be tuned individually to every headphone you'd want to use it with or do the measurements inside the earcanal. A dummy head where you'd just crank the volume until it signals damaging levels is probably preferable. I don't think you...

Resistors at the inputs and outputs of ICs ???

Since the designer has chosen values of R10 and R12 that corresponds to the impedance of the cable it sound like a good idea. Resistors are cheap so I'd suggest you try both. Impedance is dependant on the frequency so bigger resistors will lessen the effect of the cables frequency dependent...

Resistors at the inputs and outputs of ICs ???

It's a voltage divider. Two things it might be good for is: By putting out double the voltage from the buffer and splitting it at the source any noise picked up in the cable is halved. Input impedance of most amps is very high, by doing this you can omit the effect of variations in that...

    the nephew of PS porn

Using a dual voltage supply and omitting the ground you get in between would be bad as you're superimposing 2 errors on top of each other. Good intellectual trick though and if someone wants to measure stability it will double peak to peak error without affecting average noise over time. The...

    the nephew of PS porn

The positive rail is regulated against ground. Ground works as the reference potential. Usually you just reference ground to another ground, ie, a tranny has a floating potential but the amp is connected to a source and the two grounds to each other putting them on the same potential. There is...

changing 1/8" tip on a pair of headphones?

can be tricky, the actual wire inside can be extremely thin. You will also need to determine which wire goes where. The simplest way is probably to cut the wire an inch from the old connector, strip the wires on the connector and use a meter to find which color goes where. Someone else...
