Shure SE535: Reviews and First Impressions Thread
Tried them. Don't personally appreciate iems, especially those. 535s are designed for stage monitoring use so that artists can hear their own vocals. I understand now why their mids are "over-emphasized" for so many people.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

HD650......still hold their own
Yeah, they are discontinued. OR are they? I mean the HD6xxs are just redesigned HD650s. They sound the same. Yes, they are the same. Probably different build quality, but same drivers and all. I'm loving them rn, but still; doesn't beat my K712.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
I think FiiO is making some kind of true wireless system with MMCX jacks. I hope they improve the uTWS a bit and then I'll get them for my 535s when Ithe virus thing dies down. I'd say there is more potential products coming so it's probably better to wait. I also hate how FiiO names their...- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Getting into the hobby! Balanced vs Unbalanced?
Balanced basically works by running channels on separate grounds and flipping polarity of signals. By doing this, the hope is to further eliminate noise, especially due to external electromagnetic interference. The technical reason behind this is the superposition of waves: as the two signals...- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Searching for the best headphones under 150$
Personally, ATH M40X for over-ear or Shure SE215s for iems are both great choices. If you want more bass, M50X or V-Moda XS. V-Modas retail in the EU for around 180, while M50x will set you back about 120 Euros. I remember the SE215s being about 150 pounds in the UK, but I'm not sure if they...- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Opinions on the JDS Labs stack.
Measurement wise, it seems the El stack has an upper hand over the Objective and ODAC. I personally use the Atom and El DAC. I would not recommend the Subjective 3. It is extra spending you can use on many other great things, while its role can be filled with a good digital parametric eq.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Warm submerging sound
To me, HD6xxs sound pretty "warm and fuzzy." They seem somewhat "submerging" due to a narrower soundstage than what I was used to.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Help with Music/Gaming Headphones (450€/500$)
K712s have great soundstage and are good for music too. They are also really comfortable, despite of concerns about plastic construction. I have been using them for 3 years and they are still pretty sturdy. However, if you want pinpoint accuracy and desire to aim with only ears, I don't think...- Darth Plagueis the Wise

USB DAC for PC (Win 10) + Bluetooth w/ LDAC transmitter
Try Shanling UP4. It sounds OK and has LDAC support. Also the battery life is solid, at around 15 hrs.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Better quality modem/router for streaming to get better sound quality?
Asl long as your setup can provide sufficient speed to stream your high-quality files at the desired rate, I don't see how transmission methods would influence digital files. Unless you are literally putting your router on top of your DAC and have it actually interfere with it somehow.- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Recommendation for new headphones
I'd say you avoid planars. They look nice on paper but are actually pretty power-hungry. Audezes are also way too heavy. I'd recommend something like AKG K7xx, brighter and more revealing, wide soundstage; while HD600s might be more forgiving and more intimate. Also, these AKGs are super comfy -...- Darth Plagueis the Wise

Best "audiophile" setups for commercial air travel
Shure IEMs are a great choice IMO. Light, high quality, sturdy (somewhat). FiiO, Mojo, there are a bunch of good amps out there.- Darth Plagueis the Wise
