    PC microphone input noise

I got a used Sennheiser SC75 communication headset off eBay to try out, since years ago when I was big into internet PC gaming I used something very similar with my soundcard, and it worked just fine. The microphone is very good! I only need 10 dB of gain to get a very acceptable signal...

    PC microphone input noise

I got an old Antec Sonata case, the PSU is at the top of the case. My motherboard is an Asus A320M-C. There are no lower PCI-E slots that are usable. The lowest slot is a regular PCI (non-express). I'm guessing the power supply is the weak link because I studied the motherboard and the audio...

    PC microphone input noise

I've had microphone problems on my PC for years. At first, I thought it was a PSU issue, then a room noise issue, now after some testing I think it may be due to something about the computer in general (perhaps the PSU). I tested the same microphones (MEMS headset mics and an electret...

    earphones that fit

I am looking for an alternative to the Panasonic Ergo-Fit earphones. These are the only earphones I have tried that actually fit my ear canals. Everything else doesn't seal well or is uncomfortable with frequent use. Unfortunately, Panasonic's Ergo-Fit earphones don't have great sound...

    headphone calibration

For years I have been trying to calibrate headphones or equalize them to sound relatively flat. Years ago I used a Radio Shack SPL meter and just placed it against the earpiece of a on-ear headphone, and that worked OK, though not great. Recently, I got the idea to try an in-ear microphone...

    What creates soundstage in headphones??

In my experience, open-back or old-skool on-ear headphones (Koss KSC75's, Porta Pro's, etc.) have much better soundstage. So do angled drivers. Soundstage can also be enhanced by electronic DSP.

looking for information on koss UR23i and UR42i headphones

I'm looking for some frequency response measurements for newer Koss headphones like the UR23i and UR42i. But mostly all I see is Sennheiser stuff... Koss does not seem to get alot of love.

    koss headphone impedance

Koss has several different lines of headphones with different impedances. What difference does this make?

headphone with no bass in one ear?

I'm not sure, but the sound quality is poor in that ear. It sounds like one of those cheap piezo horn tweeters.

headphone with no bass in one ear?

Any music I try that has anything below 200 Hz or so. I'm assuming the driver is damaged at this point. I've never encountered a headphone to do that before, though.

headphone with no bass in one ear?

    My hearing is fine.

headphone with no bass in one ear?

I have a Status CB-1 I was given for free. It has no bass in one ear. We looked at the electrical wiring and it appears fine. Could it be a damaged driver?

    open vs. closed: value

My impression is that open-back headphones just aren't as good a value for the money as closed-back headphones? Does that play out in your experience, as well? I have used mostly inexpensive headphones over the years (less than 100 dollars), but I've also listened to some more expensive ones...

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

Probably, but graphene on mylar apparrently works much better than mylar alone: https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/1more-triple-driver-over-ear-headphones

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

Graphene is not too rare in earbuds. I recently bought some iHaper earbuds off Amazon for $9 that claim to have graphene drivers. Based on the sound they produce, I see no reason to doubt that. They are the flatest, cheap earphones I have ever listened to. A larger headphone with graphene...

Are gaming headphones really just a gimmick?

I have never used special gaming headsets. I'm not saying they couldn't make a good gaming headset, but usually what you are paying for is a mediocre microphone and lots of plastic. Koss has a new gaming headset out that looks pretty good (detachable cables, for instance) but it's vastly...

    KOSS KSC75 vs Soundmagic E10C

You might look into the Koss UR40. I bought a pair recently off Amazon. I am not a basshead but I appreciate the sound with a little EQ. They are also designed to be lightweight and portable, even though I use them mostly at home. Though they will isolate about the same as older style on-ear...

    New Member Introductions thread

I'm new here. I'm a gamer that listens to some music, and I've always tended to favor headphones because I live in an apartment. I've drifted more and more towards audiophile stuff as time goes on, but I'm a budget audiophile. I watch ZeosPantera's channel and I'm a fan. I even went through...

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

There are newer headphone materials and drivers out there, but big companies tend to play it safe. I got some Electrostatz headphones about a week ago and they were a deal at $21 dollars. They are much more neutral in the treble, not sharp or sibilant as low-end dynamic drivers tend to be...

how do the older walkman type headphones compared to over-ear open backs?

I own several headphones, mostly closed-back types. I do however, have a Sony MDR-210, which is similar to the on-ear headphones that were popular in the 90's for hooking up to portable music players. They have 30mm drivers, and the sides of the driver enclosures have small ports, so they...

    help with headphone: Sony MDR-210

Having spent more time with this headphone, they sound amazing considering their modest price back in 1995 or so when I bought them. They are nothing like the cheap Sony on-ear headphones you get now. I tried these out on my wife's Schitt hybrid tube amp and she really liked the sound- in...

The Obsession with Loudness in Portable Headphones -- Why?! + "Hearing Loss from Headphones a Myth"

I think less informed listeners tend to assume louder is better, since they have not developed critical listening skills. The main thing that seems to be driving sensitivity is portability- smaller and smaller devices that output less voltage. I know that I have to crank up the volume on my...

harmon kardon and diffuse field curves and video games

PC gaming audio seems a bit hit or miss in terms of how well HRTF's work, especially because a sound engine developer has to write code for a headphone that has no standard frequency response. The best PC gaming audio I have experienced was with Sensaura's audio. Unfortunately they were bought...

harmon kardon and diffuse field curves and video games

I've been doing alot of reading and youtube surfing and became aware that alot of headphones have elevated bass and treble relative to the midrange, the theory being that this will sound more like a loudspeaker listening experience in a typical room. However, it seems to me this could be...

    headphone stands and clamping force?

I watch Z Reviews and one thing I noticed is that one of his headphones seems to have widened somewhat from sitting on foam yoga blocks for so long. I do not have enough experience with full size headphones to judge so I was wondering if this also reduces the clamping force on the head- my...
