Looking at SE846 gen2 and alternatives

I’m considering buying some high-end IEMs at some point later this year. Shure SE846 gen 2 look like a good option but I’ve seen a few people say they aren’t very competitive so looking for other recommendations. My use-case is entirely non-professional, just music and movies/tv. I mostly...

    Shokz OpenFit - mini review

For medical reasons I've been told that for the timebeing I can't wear earbuds or over-ear headphones. Sucks to be me! So I'm now rocking the Shokz OpenFit. These are are a new kind of earbuds that hook around your ear and then have a tiny speaker that rests by the opening of the ear, but is...

Sony WH-1000XM5, from a long-time user of Airpods Pro

Found an EQ here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/uzql70/comment/iho4dgn/?context=3 "+4 +6 +8 +6 +6 and I have the bass set to +10" that really shouldn't sound good, everything about that is wrong but OMG IT DOES

Sony WH-1000XM5, from a long-time user of Airpods Pro

Forgot to mention, the XM5 by default sound quite dark to me, I had to change the EQ to bright to liven them up. Possibly caused by my current hearing issue though.

Sony WH-1000XM5, from a long-time user of Airpods Pro

Bathys look cool but more than double the price and ANC not as good, I bet they sound amazing though!

Sony WH-1000XM5, from a long-time user of Airpods Pro

For medical reasons I can't currently wear earbuds or IEMs so have had to give up my AirPods. The XM5 seemed like the best option for wireless over-ears with decent ANC so despite not really being a fan of over-ears I got them. I have to say I don't hate them quite as much as I thought I would...

Suddenly prone to ear infections since turning 40

Fair. Ear wax takes longer to come out though I think, I guess if you have your ears cleaned professionally every once in a while it's probably not too bad.

Suddenly prone to ear infections since turning 40

Yeah similar to what happened to me, I had a bacterial ear infection and then after it was treated I used Otex drops to soften the wax and then rinsed my ear canals out with water. The water going in there then caused a fungal infection. Really not a good idea to put anything in your ears, ever...

Suddenly prone to ear infections since turning 40

I started cleaning them regularly with alcohol wipes after the first infection but it doesn’t seem to have helped.

Suddenly prone to ear infections since turning 40

I have private health insurance so that's not an issue, I'm going back to my doctor on friday after the antibiotics course finishes for another checkup, depending on what they find I may get referred to an ENT then so will see. I doubt anyone will be able to say why I got infected all those...

Suddenly prone to ear infections since turning 40

I have worn earbuds my entire adult life, nothing about my usage patterns have changed. I never had a single ear infection until last year when I turned 40. In the space of last year I had a total of 4 ear infections, one of them fungal and the most recent one over xmas spreading to the middle...

Pi7 S2 + JVC EP-FX9 Spiral Dot eartips, mini review

Someone on here recommended the FX10 Spiral Dot++ eartips for the Pi7 S2 earbuds and I love them, they are the best sounding I've found by a long way. I was curious about the FX9 Spiral Dots, the older version, as our Singaporean friend with the eartip review compilation suggested they were...

    Best tips for Pi7 S2

I was also very happy with these after seeing your recommendation thanks! Today I just received the older version of these - EP-FX9ML-B - from Ali Express and have been comparing them, the differences are subtle but this FX9 version seems slightly more neutral. Mids are more prominent, bass is...

Review: Bowers and Wilkins Pi7 S2

Not heard any of those so can't comment but the Pi7 S2 with the Spiral Dot++ eartips are really amazing. The stock tips have an emphasised v-shape but the Spiral Dots make them slightly more neutral and open up the mids but without any harshness or sibilance. It's a match made in heaven imo

Review: Bowers and Wilkins Pi7 S2

You may want to get one size above your normal size, I normally use mediums but with these I needed ML

Review: Bowers and Wilkins Pi7 S2

JVC Spiral Dot++ are excellent with these and have in-between sizes

    KopiOkaya's guide to eartips

Yeah everything sounds clearer and more detailed compared to the stock tips. The medium size didn't seal so well so I lost bass but with the ML they are perfect.

It occurred to me to try a larger size of the Spiral Dot++ tips, so I ordered ML. They arrived today and are absolutely brilliant.

    B&W Pi7 S2 - ANC massively boosts bass

I’m still hopeful they’ll update the software at some point and make it possible to switch between ANC and passthrough mode. Such a huge oversight

Those are no good either unfortunately. The ones I'd quite like to try with these Pi7S2 are the sony eartips that come with the WF-1000XM4 earbuds but they're horrifically expensive, £26 per tip! I'm not paying that even though they are pretty good.

    KopiOkaya's guide to eartips

Going to try the small size of the CP100, as those are the closest match in terms of size to the B&W medium tips that work well. B&W tips are 11mm x 9mm, CP100 S are 11mm x 9.5mm, I think being 0.5mm longer shouldn’t make much difference and may even help them seal

Amazon were nice actually, they refunded me for the spiral dots and didn't even want them sent back! I guess the shipping back to the US makes it not economically worth it haha
