Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Would there be any reason you wouldn't want to use a Y cable out of the Eitr to connect it to two DACs? Also, is there possibly going to be a USB Gen5 card available for Jotunheim? Or a Jot that accepts digital coax in? Since the DAC portion of the Jotunheim is bus powered, I imagine no.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Vali2 and Modi Multibit is probably the maximum value audio source and amplification on the market. He won't be disappointed, but, the stock tube is sort of... bad, if you get one like the one I got. I've rolled quite a few and settled on NOS Amperex from Holland and big stupid 6SN7s with all...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Was thinking of getting a set of the new Magnepan MMGi along with a Vidar and Saga, but then Apple reinvented the speaker the other day. According to them, it has the highest fidelity.

I know this sentiment has been said before. I don't understand the new format of this site. If Head-Fi wants to add a new feature, give me the ability to upvote/downvote posts. I love the Reddit style, but absolutely hate the community on Reddit (full of trolls and sycophantic fanboys).

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

It seems to me that to be really successful as a female artist in certain genres of music (especially country), looks are required. While I don't care for country or pop music (which are probably the same thing anymore?), I do respect that a lot of popular female pop artists can be successful...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I agree, this is getting out of hand. Can we please get back on topic? I'm thinking of picking up a Jotunheim at the Schiitr later this year. Hopefully by then they will have built up a bigger collection of speakers and headphones to demo. If the Schiitr experiment goes well, I would think...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks all for suggestions on how I might pick up a set of Emotiva monitors for a reasonable price. I feel as if I'm pretty knowledgeable on headphone and headphone gear, but I don't know where to begin with two channel gear. Does anyone have recommendations for near-field powered monitors in...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I intended to buy a set of Emotiva Airmotiv 4s when they were $300 to use as computer speakers. I was not aware they must have been on sale. A few days later when I was ready to pull the trigger they were $100 more. I totally see how offering promotional discounts may actually be harmful to a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The way Lee explained their business model for cables is that they are hand made by his friend "KK" so he can make his cigarette money, and they aren't even trying to really profit from selling cables. The whole thing is pretty funny and refreshing in the audiophile world.  ...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Venture Electronics has been expanding their inexpensive cable options recently. I could never justify spending $50 on a cable, let alone $200+. HifiMan would have charged me almost half the price of my headphone for a balanced cable. Lee from VE charged me something like $20 and it's a very...

Venture Electronics VE Zen 2.0 impressions and discussion thread

Just got the Zen 2.0, and I'm not totally sure what to think of it yet...   It's very good compared to any IEMs or earbuds I've owned, in regards to clarity and presence, but I'm not sure I'm fond of the sound signature. There is a huge mid-bass emphasis without much extension, along with...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

I'm curious how much goes into the design of a DAC using off the shelf D/S chip. Many companies use the same chips, and produce different results. I'm mostly curious because I'm considering buying a Fulla 2 or Modi/Magni stack to sit on my desk at work, and both of those use the AKM 4490, which...

Venture Electronics VE Zen 2.0 impressions and discussion thread

Just noticed VE site has 4-pin XLR terminated Zen 2.0 (non-black edition) on sale now. I just bought the 2.5mm TRRS balanced a few days ago, so I contacted Lee to see if they might be coming out with an adapter for female 2.5TRRS to XLR. Hopefully soon!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Jason,   I know you don't like to comment on potential future products, but I'm just curious what your philosophy is on hardware EQ? Is this something you've considered or are opposed to doing? I know this falls in the same category as tone controls on amps, but a separate box for the folks...

If you don't mind shipping directly from China, I would strongly recommend Venture Electronics. They are well known for making really excellent earbud-style headphones, but they also make high-quality headphone cables and interconnects. $20 or so can get you a balanced cable for more popular...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Would a Fulla multibit be feasible with regards to heat? My Mimby puts dissipates quite a bit of heat in a much larger case. I think it gets warmer than my Vali 2. And that's not including the heat generated from the amp section a multibit Fulla would have.   But then again, I'm not a hardware...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Not sure what digital enhancement of music using the 420 convention means exactly, but I believe that enhancement has been pretty popular in DIY circles for years, and only just recently became legally sanctioned where Schiit is located.   I'm a proponent of the Scotch mod for DIY audio...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've seen a lot of praise in this thread for the Freya, but I'm probably looking more at the Saga, since it's less expensive, easier to roll with one tube, and I don't currently have any inputs/outputs that are balanced. Is there anyone who owns both and can tell me what your impressions are of...

I wonder what the Manhattan would do to more experimental or noise rock? I'm curious to see what it's effects are on Sonic Youth.

Such an incredible recording. If Manhattan can improve upon something that close to music perfection, I'll be first in line.

Yeah, I suppose that makes a lot more sense. Decent band though, and two members did go on to Fugazi, which was a great band, IMO.

Rites of Spring, the DC hardcore band? Or is this a different Rites of Spring? I'm surprised a vendor would use lo-fi 80s punk as a demo to sell speakers to audiophiles.

Thank for all of your recommendations. I may just pick up a LISST for schiits and grins, since it's only $50. It's good to know I can use a single ended DAC in the chain and still get benefits from the balanced outputs of the Jotunheim. I will likely go that route eventually.
