Venture Electronics VE Zen 2.0 impressions and discussion thread

Just noticed VE site has 4-pin XLR terminated Zen 2.0 (non-black edition) on sale now. I just bought the 2.5mm TRRS balanced a few days ago, so I contacted Lee to see if they might be coming out with an adapter for female 2.5TRRS to XLR. Hopefully soon!

Initial impressions, these are amazing... Clarity and detail, seperation... spot on. A little bit warmer than I'd hoped for though. Good detailed bass, but a bump in the lower end? I couldn't imagine using these with the foam pads.

I'm going to do a comparison to my MX980s. Love them both!

The Zen 2.0 works so well with the AK70!

I want an AK70 to use with my headphones and the like (including my VE ones)...but I'd feel bad if I get that and don't incorporate the Mojo somehow... considering I just purchased it).

Likewise... but with my qa360. When at home I use it with the mojo thrown on, but when out and about the sound is just awesome straight to the Zens.

Ok. Final questions... Will I be able to run the Zen 2.0 Balanced out of the AK70 or more than likely, Onkyo DP-X1 without incorporating an external amp?

correct me if i am wrong but ak70 is not a true balanced player? I dont know if that would affect the output power. I have used the balanced zen on M1s and its great but i still feel that an amp is needed to get every little bit out of it.

Is the balanced out on the M1S and DP-X1 the same? I'm wondering (hoping) the DP-X1 has higher output power.

Just got the Zen 2.0, and I'm not totally sure what to think of it yet...

It's very good compared to any IEMs or earbuds I've owned, in regards to clarity and presence, but I'm not sure I'm fond of the sound signature. There is a huge mid-bass emphasis without much extension, along with excellent mids and slightly rolled-back treble to my ears. I think the Monk+ has a wider soundstage. I like the Zen. A lot, but I feel like I'm missing something. It seems to change a lot with different amps, more so than most headphones. I've used it with my phone, which drives them comfortably, a Vali 2, and a Fiio E10k, and I think I actually like them best from the phone (ZTE Axon 7 - has a great DAC for a phone).

Any recommendations for a good amp pairing with the Zen 2.0?
