Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
Same experience here. It also depends upon the sort of amp you are using. A class A has different "needs" then a class D.- GeneralSensible

Just gave Ringo it a listen and luckily I hear them too :relaxed:. Great track btw. I have a somewhat same experience. For years I liked to play The Trinity Sessions by Cowboy Junkies. Not only a damn good recording, but also damn good music imho. After purchasing DAVE for the first time I...- GeneralSensible

Great dogs! We also have one together with a (black) German Shepherd, hence the question. I'll stick to the topic again from now on. Sorry, just a dog nut....- GeneralSensible

I'm really curious if I can also hear this difference. I'll plan a test coming weekend. Really interesting stuff this. Thanks! Off topic: Nice dog in your avatar. Is it a black German Shepherd?- GeneralSensible

Totally agree on doing the more extended listening tests. A/B-ing is for quick impressions, not for serious listening imho. I understand the part of reducing brightness/sharper sound with cables. While using USB this is the main reason that I have searched a long time for a decent cable. After...- GeneralSensible

Yep, everything counts in large or small amounts...... That said, I'm curious if I hear the same as @alxw0w when I try optical again. I really like USB, but I'm looking for the most neutral, uncolored sound possible. But I have to like what I hear, that's the main thing.- GeneralSensible

Especially the sound image was "narrower". I also thought it sounded compressed. As if the sound was being squeezed. That, along with the chunky bass, were the most notable differences.- GeneralSensible

That's my experience too. However, I think this also strongly depends on the streamer you use and USB cable. In my case, I'm using an Auralic Aries G2.1 as a streamer. It has a galvanically isolated USB output with a dedicated femto clock. I connected this to the M Scaler with a Curious Evolved...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Can anyone (probably Rob ) help me with the exact output impedance of the single ended output of DAVE? I'm a bit confused because I can find all kinds of values both on the Chord site and in this forum. I read a value of 0.0055 ohms as a general value on the Chord site. But what's this...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
This indeed can do the trick! For those of you (like myself) who aren't too keen on d.i.y. there is another very effective and not too expensive solution. Under almost all my equipment I use Vibrapods and/or Vibracones. These are nice little gadgets which give really audible results in...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Maybe you can ask the distributor if it is possible to do a home test with the other connector and the 2m length. I think it is worth a try because this could address the brightness issue you were talking about. I truly do recognize your findings about transparency etc. but without the...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Two questions, Did your demo cable got the so-called "CONNECTOR UPGRADE"? This is a serious but not too expensive upgrade which changes the connector to one with "silver-clad copper alloy contacts" (I do not understand why this upgrade is not standard, because it really makes a...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
To be honest I don't know exactly. What I can say is that I connected the cables in the morning, listened a little bit but not very intensive. I heard a bit harshness, but those cables came straight from the box. I went to work and in the evening I started listening. I liked what they did. This...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Generally my experience with WireWorld cabling is that they fit most set-ups. That's quite special. They do not introduce their own special "sound fingerprint" which actually for me is another word for adding distortion.- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I totally agree and had the same experience with the Silver Electra cable. To be honest I did hear a slight improvement in SQ with the platinum, but that was a marginal improvement and not worth 4x the price-tag in this case. The improvement was slightly better micro-dynamics, especially...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Hi Silvertone, If you haven't heard the DAVE yet, then I would say: "Don't wait another day!!" I think you will very much like it in your set. My system is as neutral as it can get, that's the way I like it. I select all the components as fast, transparent and neutral sounding as...- GeneralSensible

I understand that'll be a problem. Anything else then doing some DIY on your powercord to change polarity, like putting some polarity changer between the powercord and the device, would have it's effect on SQ I'm afraid.- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Oh, that's quite simple for us Europeans. Here in Europe we use so-called CEE 7/4 or CEE7/7 Schuko AC powerplug, Schuko sockets are unpolarised, there is no way of differentiating between the two live contacts, so the plug can be used in two ways (you can turn them upside-down). With some...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Not just the "old" remote. I actually own the new one. The commands are locked out in the DAVE. This has nothing to do with the remote control units.- GeneralSensible

The new one is also made of plastic. It isn't too bad, the DAVE responses quite good and the plastic is not totally "el cheapo". About DAVE not responding to some commands, there can be an explanation. If you run it in DAC mode some commands are locked out. I ask a question about this to...- GeneralSensible

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Thousands is a bit execrated. I placed my DAVE on a Vibrapod/Vibracone combo and this really made some difference in control, soundstage, bass etc. I also placed two AudioQuest Jitterbugs on the USB bus of my MAC-Mini. Rob Watts talks about this in a post on page 230 of this forum-thread. The...- GeneralSensible
