Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Any update from anyone on this thread re a new preamp (Saga S type) for RCA users? I see Jason posted about lack of direction on this in January - has anything been decided? I think for a lot of us smaller amp users, the lack of a multi-input preamp is a a pain/stumbling block...! Nor do the...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Alas, I don't use balanced connections so I don't really want to pay $400+ for a preamp with either a DAC or phono (but not both) and or no remote. Once up in those ranges, I might as well get a new Yamaha AS-501 integrated and call it done. I keep suggesting that Fosi Audio jump on making a...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hey, what's up with the discontinuation of the Saga S? Is Schiit going to be coming out with a new solid state only preamp in 2024? (I have long hoped for the Saga S form factor, but with the addition of an onboard/optional phono pre slot.)- JEnglishSmith

New Fosi Audio N3 - Compact Bluetooth Receiver/Headphone Amp
Ah! I was never 100% clear whether the BT signal is digital or not. Makes sense though, then it would have an internal DAC. Fosi sent me the device for free, I will prolly just keep this one and use occasionally. If I was going to use it often, like you, I would return or get a new one... Glad...- JEnglishSmith

New Fosi Audio N3 - Compact Bluetooth Receiver/Headphone Amp
Yeah, that's a good price and an even lower price than a month ago! I will try mine again, have not used in a while. See if anything different re that carrier level sound. I have noticed on mine, also, the battery drains off quickly even if the unit is switched off, you have to recharge it...- JEnglishSmith

Aiyima A07 MAX - Initial Comparison and Review
This is a mini-review of the A07 MAX from my "average Joe" perspective. Aiyima was gracious enough to send me a unit for review and evaluation. I found the amplifier to be a lot like the Fosi V3 - apart from the noted Stereo/Mono feature, which I have not made use of. While I think the Mono... -
New Fosi Audio N3 - Compact Bluetooth Receiver/Headphone Amp
Fosi Audio recently sent me a fairly new product to try out, their N3 bluetooth receiver/headphone amp. It's a bit of a niche product but I was interested to review one after seeing the photos. It is currently available on "that auction site" for $60, but I don't see it yet on Fosi's main...- JEnglishSmith

Fulla-E a big disappointment
I pulled out my so-tiny Schiit Fulla v1 yesterday to use again with headphones at desktop, still sounds great. Amazingly good from such a compact unit. I used to have some Windows 10 issues with it (sudden disconnects), but it's been playing now without any problem for two days. Using with...- JEnglishSmith

I'd be interested to hear if anyone here has done an op-amp swap and what the results are. I don't want to order any more alternates unless there is a sure-fire, drop in amp that is available from a known good parts seller.- JEnglishSmith

Well, the 627AUs I purchased were apparently a mismatch or fake, they caused the unit to emit a high pitched squeal. Fortunately I seem to have shut the unit down in time - amp OK, no speaker damage. Over at Audio Science Review, they're chiding me for even attempting to switch op amp's. Has...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
In light of no forthcoming class-D amp from Schiit, I am getting very interested in this new one (A20a) from Sabaj. Don't really need the balanced inputs now, but nice to have. Same thing with the remote. I like that the power supply is integrated, fiddling with the switching power adapters gets...- JEnglishSmith

I have one on order and some alternate op amps to swap in as well (OPA627AU). Looking forward to giving it a good test. I've enjoyed my SMSL SA-50 amps but this looks like it will be a step up. The value of Class D remains awfully compelling.- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hey, a Modi 3 question - does anyone know if the Modi will pull power from the plugged-in secondary power draw USB even when the regular audio USB port is plugged into a device that is providing sufficient power, such as a regular laptop? I am wondering if there is any audio/noise advantage to...- JEnglishSmith

Exciting - looks like a great value. What are you guys thinking about an update for the current Modi form factor? I'm a loyal Magni amp user so having the larger footprint DAC probably not ideal for my desktop rig (but I could see buying the Modius for one of my main speaker-based rigs). I love...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Any advance/early news re updates to the Schiit Modi? Is anything new on the horizon similar to the improvements with the Magni amps? Or, is there a better thread to keep track of what's in the development pipeline at Schiit?- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
That's certainly a better price than the Olasonic! And just as stylish. This looks like it does have its own internal DAC, unlike the Olasonic, tho. Now I want something along these same lines, but in silver, and around $200. C'mon, Schiit. You can do it!- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
This is the Olasonic unit - last year, I saw these as low as $550 on the 'bay but now it looks like they are going for a grand or more. This is what got me thinking about a Schiit transport (in silver) that could sit beside the other products, not take up a lot of room, and output to one of...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
My ideal small transport that has at least coax out, or optical, in addition to USB. Otherwise, I'll just continue to use a high end old player with digital outs... There is a small transport on the market for around $500 - I forget the name - and then there's the Cambridge Audio unit for...- JEnglishSmith

I really love my 361's, they are my newest pair - I've always been a Sennheiser guy, but these really appealed to me and I needed a closed-back 'phone for my cube office environment. I suppose there are a few other 'phones in the sub-$100 zone that can compete, but I'm happy. I bought online but...- JEnglishSmith

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hey, two Schiit questions, fellow Head-Fiers: 1. I recently hauled out my 1st generation Fulla (just because I like the little thing) to use again in my home steup. Sounds great, but am getting a little USB noise off of both the ThinkPad hub and via a direct USB out on the laptop itself. I...- JEnglishSmith

I realized last night that fitting these is a little bit different. They require a lot of forward rotation to "lock" into one's ear. Then the memory wire does a loose curve around the top of the ear. Once I made that adjustment, the supplied ear tips work ok. The memory wire is not as good as it...- JEnglishSmith

Review by 'JEnglishSmith' on item 'Sennheiser HD414'
I own two pair of these, both the original 600-ohm model from the mid 70s. I still use them quite frequently, they are my favorite headphone. One pair has a tighter headband with less flex - probably my "2nd pair" that did not get used as much. This squeezes my head a bit - and I have a...- JEnglishSmith

Review by 'JEnglishSmith' on item 'QKZ W1 Pro - In-ear sport headphone'
I was interested to try these for the price, but alas the lack of a good ear seal makes them almost unusable. I ordered some other 3rd party tips, and still can't get a good seal. Bass response just dies without a good seal. When I press on the earpieces to make them seal, the sound is...- JEnglishSmith
