Bass Management - Need Advice
If your preamp has an LFE out, and the sub has an LFE input, that would be equal to an L/R connection. Regarding your questions about which method sounds better, why not try it out for yourself since you already have everything? No one but yourself should be able to tell you what sounds good. -
MSB DAC III Platinum
Not that it's unpopular, but I think it's too rich for most ppl's blood. However, it uses multiple ladder dacs which should make it sound miles better than the more common dac's using delta-sigmas. If I could afford it, I'd get the MSB Platinum for sure.- alleyezon_d

Got a question about DVD Player to external DAC
Unless your DAC can process DTS, Dolby, etc. you won't get sound unless it's set to PCM.- alleyezon_d

Playing Analog Line-in Over Optical-Output
Hi, I've gone through all this a while ago when trying to hear myself with my own mic with a similar setup (external dac, speakers). The trouble is the drivers. If you go to sounds>playback devices and check the properties of speakers or headphones, you will see a tab called "levels" and this...- alleyezon_d

HELP !!!! LOL...op amp sample ordering confusion
You will probably need the DIP8 package. Samples are nice and free, but they often take too long and with too much hassle (follow up phone calls with their engineers/sales reps). It's a lot quicker and not expensive at all to order them from digikey or newark. I got mine from Newark the next...- alleyezon_d

Recommenation for an entry level hi-fi CDP?
For <$500, I'd recommend the CEC 3300R used. It is pure Class A, separate headphone amplifier circuit, and balanced/unbalanced outputs. Brand new I think its $600 from audiocubes? It can also be used as a really good transport in the future (has optical, coax and AES/EBU).- alleyezon_d

The buzzing! It drives me crazy!
Actually, your soundcard should be pretty good. If you still get the noise when using your receiver, it might be something else causing the noise.- alleyezon_d

I want the paradigm atoms...
Hiss from a headphone amp could have nothing to do with the volume level. I had an old yamaha integrated that had a hiss with the volume off as well. It has to do I think with the signal to noise ratio, and the only way I was able to lower the noise was to use an attenuator. It could also just...- alleyezon_d

Vista/Realtek help please
This happened to me too and is a very simple fix. You just need to enable the option to "view disabled devices". Poke around a bit and you'll find it. EDIT: It is not a HP/RealTek issue, this is a vista thing, and nothing is actually wrong. It's just hidden.- alleyezon_d

Ordering free samples from Linear Technology?
I too tried to get some samples (2x LT1364) from LT and waited 2 weeks with no response so I ended up ordering from Newark instead. Then yesterday a LT sales rep called me and wanted to "touch base" before forwarding the samples to me. It's really not worth the hassle considering Newark got the...- alleyezon_d

Can a quality CDP be obtained in the $300 price range?
I hope I'm not hijacking the thread, forgive me and tell me if I am, but I'm also looking for something in the $300 range. However, I'm more looking for a transport with AES digital out. Anyone know of anything? Thanks!- alleyezon_d

Sound card for a digital transport
Please try and confirm that it actually resamples before you buy anything. My motherboard sends bit perfect signals through it's toslink and coaxial outs. And it uses HDA codecs. However, mine is a realtek ALC889a chip.- alleyezon_d

Are any of the Oppo players bit-perfect?
From the oppo site: Q: Why is there no audio output from the coaxial or optical digital audio port when I play DVD-Audio or SACD discs? A: The copyright protection feature of the DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD (SACD) disc format prohibits unprotected digital audio output. Since the coaxial or...- alleyezon_d

Are any of the Oppo players bit-perfect?
Thanks for the clarification on redbook playback. And also on DVD-A and SACD playback. Does the oppo output 88.2khz for SACD on it's normal coax out? This really is a huge positive for me in terms of deciding to buy an oppo, now that I know I don't need to go through the hassle of modding it...- alleyezon_d

Are any of the Oppo players bit-perfect?
Well, I was reading a thread on diyaudio that revolved around adding a high-rez PCM output to the oppo. I figured that means that the oppo alone won't send those signals. Bit-perfect is available through HDMI because it's a HDCP secure source. However, I think I'm still not going to be 100% sure...- alleyezon_d

Are any of the Oppo players bit-perfect?
I'm just wondering if the oppo players transmit 44.1k bit-perfect playback for redbook through it's coax or toslink digital outs. I know it will through it's HDMI connection, but I'm wondering if it gets resampled to 48k or other through its coax/toslink output. Thanks EDIT: After further...- alleyezon_d

Good (low cost) home theater speakers?
NSM Model 5's check the reviews, they image like crazy, which is prefect for music and movies. Quite cool because you can't even tell that sound is coming out of the speaker. -

Good soundcard for use as a transport
Maybe what you could use is an anti-jitter device like the Monarchy DIP, Theta TLC, Genesis Digital Lens, etc? Other than that, I think the best computer transport is from Empirical Audio, the Off Ramp.- alleyezon_d

I haven't heard the AudioSource amp, but why should it be crossed off the list just because it's not a chip amp?
